Legend of Oasis/Story of Thor 2 on the Saturn is as Zelda-style as they get.

Oh, and Record of Lodoss War for the Dreamcast. Amazing game.

1) Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past
2) Okami
3) Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker

In that order. There are other more RPG-style entries (Eternal Sonata, newer Shining games), but these adventure-heavy titles take the cake.

I agree with both of those--especially Legend of Oasis. Dark Saviour is also pretty awesome.

Yeah, I'm no stranger to the Zelda games. But thanks. I recently heard about the World Of Mana games, which I always assumed were just straight RPGs.

If you consider Castlevania SOTN a action adventure I'd say thats my all time favorite, followed closely by Super Metroid.

Shining Wisdom is a pretty stellar game and I can't wait to play through it more. I've head some negative reviews on this but I like it so far.

Definately agree with Crusader of Centy! Finally playing through that game right now. Took a while to track it down for a decent price, but scored a complete copy off ebay for $20. Sweet! Really like the style and the animal attributes are cool. My only complaint is that it's a bit easy. I haven't died yet and rarely lose more that a couple hearts.

I second Okami too. Such and awesome game. Fun in every sense and kept me playing non-stop for several weeks. The first game thats done that for a long, long time. Ico and Shadow of the Collosus are also superb games on the PS2...but are kinda in their own genre.

I've always liked Illusion of Gaia, but somehow it feels incomplete. Plus you can't really go back to places and that drives me nuts.

Zelda: Link to the Past is a truly awesome game.

I could never get into the Mana games. I don't know why. I think I got stung by Legend of Mana on SNES where I made a wrong decision early on (lost the girl and had to go rescue her) and ended up fighting impossible enemies which just annoyed me.

My wife is Zelda-mad. She's completed almost every Zelda game now. She's still playing Majora's mask - she collected every single mask as of a week or so ago, and now has the final battle left. And she hasn't completed the first NES one yet, but it's waiting on Wii VC for her when Majora is complete. But everything else across all platforms is done (At one stage I had to set up "Link's Awakening" on a GB emulator on her DSLite because I couldn't find a copy on eBay in time, after she'd completed Minish Cap and Phantom Hourglass, and wanted to "stay portable").

So I'm trying to find Zelda-like games for her to play afterwards. Okami is on the list, and maybe the SNES Gaia series too.

Are you going to get her a CD-I for the 3 exclusive Zelda titles there? :)

Ahh, I know exactly the part you're talking about. You get the girl before doing Gaia's Navel and she runs off, which forces you to fight two werewolves to save her later on. That fight is a real bitch, which is why I've always made a point of doing it properly.

Honestly though, I'd recommend you give Secret of Mana another try (Legend was on the PSX). I've found the game to be much less frustrating than when I was a kid because I understood the system better.

I'm seriously considering it. Although she doesn't like side-scrollers (Zelda II is a no-play for her). But I'd like to have them just to "complete the collection".

I've wanted to go back and "do it properly" for a while now. Work+kids doesn't leave a lot of time for RPG playing sadly, which is probably the biggest reason I've not gone back and tried it again.
