360 RPGs

Post by aaron »

i have checked these all on metacritic and read a bunch of reviews but i trust forum one-on-one recommendations over any reviews like that so, if you please, rate the following 360 RPGs for me (or recommend some others that i don't have listed).

Blue Dragon
Lost Odyssey
The Last Remnant
Infinite Undiscovery
Tales of Vesperia
Eternal Sonata
Enchanted Arms
Phantasy Star Universe

You miss Mass Effect :)

I like tradicional jRPG so both, Blue Dragon and Lost Odyssey get a good rate from me. However they are weak games 'cause the degree on they're close to their genre: tradicional jRPG. Keep that in mind.

Rate: 7/10 general public, 9/10 jPRG fans.

Blue Dragon - This is a fun game, however the art style seemed to put a lot of people off. Make sure you get the hard mode from xbox live (free) before playing, and play on hard. Normal mode is a joke, and way to easy

Lost Odyssey - Great game! Better than Blue Dragon, and very good skill system based on using certain combinations of characters together. Lots and lots of extra side quests to do at the end of the game too.
The Last Remnant - havent played yet
Infinite Undiscovery - nor this. seemed to ge tpoor reviews though :(
Tales of Vesperia - Also great, very long too, even without doing everything(~60 hours for me, i think). Its not a traditional turn based battle system though, its more real time, but still appeals to an rpg fan. Also tons of side quests, but many are missable, so if you want everything or even most things you will be needing a guide to read along with.
Eternal Sonata - Same type of battle system as Tales, more or less. Beautiful art style, but rather short. The story is very fantasy-esque (it is CHopin's last dream), but the ending didn't seem to make much sense to me :\
Enchanted Arms - Very generic game, and very bad voice acting (especially from the main character!) Probably worth the little bit it would cost to pick up though
Phantasy Star Universe

as for scores

Blue Dragon 8/10
Lost Odyssey 9/10
The Last Remnant
Infinite Undiscovery
Tales of Vesperia 9.5/10
Eternal Sonata 7.5/10
Enchanted Arms 6.5/10
Phantasy Star Universe

I'd like to emphasize just how good looking Eternal Sonata is. I can't recall ever seeing a game use a color palette like Eternal Sonata does. It's really refreshing.

I'm having a lot problems playing JRPGs lately. Time being my biggest enemy, but Lost Odyssey really good. Blue Dragon was good until I heard the boss music...yuck. Thank god for custom soundtracks.

thanks for the suggestions, guys. i'm probably going to pick up blue dragon, lost odyssey, eternal sonata, and tales of vesperia eventually. those were my gut feeling games, anyway.

and yeah, i'm sure you can tell, i'm more of a jrpg fan than games like mass effect or fallout 3 (which is actually awesome, though)

If you like traditional JRPGs, Lost Odyssey is a must buy. Blue Dragon is pretty much inferior to Lost Odyssey as a traditional JRPG so unless you like the art style I wouldn't bother with it.

Tales of Vesperia is arguably the best Tales game. Plot is a little weak but the characters are loveable and the combat is awesome (it is a Tales game after all). If you like JRPGs you have to play it. Also it's damn pretty.

I haven't played the others, so I won't comment on them.
