neo geo ORRRRRRR....

Post by lost_within »

Ok i cant make my mind up, so...lets see if you guys can help.

I love metalslug...also i hear there are a few shooters for the neogeo AES. Now im not trying to save money, being that i collect, aes is how i would go...even for that damn 500$ metalslug goodness. BUT i collect shumps for saturn and dreamcast. For the price of the neo geo with a couple "decent" games i could do about 5, maybe even sealed, shumps for the DC. So is the AES really all the hype or is the hype feeding me the "must have" bug.
Yep, I know im the one ya love to hate.

Try emulating a couple key titles before biting the bullet. That'll help you get a feel for it.

For the Neo Geo, I'd say you either really need to love the games on it, or you need to be at the point of having no other games to collect.

There's a whole bunch of real good neogeo games worth collecting. I would strongly encourage anyone to go with getting MVS games though, buying aes games just for the heck of it i just wasting money. Plus the mvs gives you the option of consolizing, and you can get multislot boards. Even more the prce of a full mvs cab is pretty low.

Havnt most of the best games been ported well to other systems though? I'd have said that the only reason to buy a neo geo isnt to play the great exclusives that it had but to own an ultra expensive console with a bunch of ultra expensive games to impress other gamer geeks.

If thats your thing then you should get the AES. It will impress people more than any other system I reckon

Buy a MVS arcade machine. The games are cheaper and exactly the same. Plus you can add a AES bios to your motherboard.

The Neo Geo seems pretty short on must haves to me. I was looking for some stuff to try since I got a Neo Geo emulator going on my PSP. I got Sengoku 3, Blazing Star, the Metal Slugs...and that's about it. There doesn't seem to be much else on the system beyong 2-d fighters.

I started out emulating/buying ports a few years back and finally jumped in this year (few months ago in fact) I now have 17 games. Most I've spent is 250 on a conversion. So no super expensive games yet. Its amazing how well the games play compared to ports from back in the day and even today. And you gotta love the sticks and the massive carts/boxes. I'm enjoying mine but already thinking of selling down the road (to finance more hobbies-cars and drums)

Ha you sound like me, guitars and cars all the way!

Actually i didnt go with the neogeo, gamestop *shivers at the evil word* had the 2 + 1 sale going on so i picked up an ass load of ps3 games until fear, killzone 2, and SF come out.

I think mostly as far as collecting i been on a DK hunt as of late. Thanks for all the feedback on the neo geo guys, ill just keep emus for now.
