Especially if you want to watch the first three James Bond movies with controversial commentaries which caused them to be recalled!Funk, E wrote:Laserdiscs forever!

btw, is vhs dead?
i love vhs, when you pop in the tape you get a feeling that you are watching a movie. When its CD its just like, yeah whatever.
its funny because dvd(and bluray) is a closer to a theater experience based on quality. Maybe because vhs is tape like theater uses film!?

In the sense that no new VHS tapes are being made, yes, it is dead.

I meant do people still buy and watch VHS movies, and vhs players

Sure people do. Just as people still buy and watch Laserdiscs or RCA Videodiscs or 8mm film, or whatever. It's just another format--archaic (though less so than some others), but still plenty useable.

The last US manufacturer of VHS tapes has closed its doors. In the US, the VHS is dead. And I don't think any new major releases are coming out on VHS any longer. It's not impossible, but nearly so, to find a VHS player that doesn't also have a DVD recorder or player built in.

I absolutely love Casablanca, but I only like Citzen Kane. I'm not one to watch movies over and over (or even a second time for that matter - I only own like a 15 DVDs) but I could watch Casablanca any time. LoD is right - it's listed simply because it's a classic and no matter what's happened in movie making since or what will happen in the future, it'll always be among the best. The Pac-Man and Ocarina comparisons are apt.
But I think I can safely say that if you didn't really get much into Casablanca, you probably won't get into Kane. It's worth watching though as any movie fan should see it at least once. If you watch the DVD extras of CK (the one I watched had Roger Ebert speaking) you'll see right away just how ground-breaking the film was on many, many fronts. Maybe no other single film since has done so much that was so new and done so well for the time.
However, there is less kissing. So maybe you'll like it.
