Yeah, that's what I was thinking. I do great until the second lap and then all the sudden I'm in 4th :? Time for some time trails. I need to accumulate more coins for parts anyway. Just playing through all the Prix is just going to take way too damn long

At 150cc Donut Plains was giving me an incredibly difficult time as well. Even if I took the turns perfectly, I would still end up finishing in the middle of the pack. It just took time and a little luck to get first in it. If it is understanding the course and learning when to drift and the like, I suggest just playing time trial against the ghosts and watching them, you really can get a good feel for when to drift and what shortcuts you can take.
150cc Lightening Cup is giving me a hard time for some reason. Every other cup I was able to place 1rst overall on my first try. I think the Special Cup I needed a second try to get 1rst overall. But for some reason Lightening Cup I keep placing 2nd. I've played it 4 or 5 times now. Thing is, I'm playing the tracks decently. Taking turns nicely, hitting all the zippers, getting as many boosts as I can, etc. But there's always one racer that just gets ahead of me and I can never seem to catch up.

what courses in the cup give you the hardest time? Outside of Rainbow Road, those tracks all have little tricks to them to increase your speed. Also, really time your drifts properly so you can take the inside tight around the turns. You would be amazed at how much time you can shave off if you start your drift just a little early so that you can make a tight drift along the edge. It seems scary to do, but if you get that down, you can do miracles.

Other tips for the courses include.....

Tick Tock Clock
1. At the glider portion of the track, keep an eye on what they the cogs are moving so you can land and use those cogs momentum to move forward faster. Also, make sure to transition from cog to cog at one of the teeth so you can do a jump and get an extra boost.

2. Near the finish line, make sure to keep an eye on the verticle cogs and how fast they are moving. If they are moving really fast towards the finish line, make sure to jump as soon as you hit them for some extra leverage.
Piranha Plant Slide
1. At the portion where there is a drop off and steep incline, there are boosts to the left and right of the drop off. Make sure you can hit those and land on the hanging platforms to avoid slowing down.

2. At the curve before that, you can cut the turn by going out of the water trough. You do not slow down as it is not considered an off the track portion.

3. In the underwater portion with the pipes billowing air, hit the air pockets that are shooting upward. There are two. One will shoot you over the piranha plant and the other will launch you up to a hanging platform and a boost. That will make things move faster.
I hope that is of some help for you!

Well, after a little drifting practice I cleared the Banana Cup with little trouble. Still couldn't beat the staff ghost though, so more practice is required (It's clear I'm not very good at this game  )

That's just it. The courses aren't giving me a hard time, it's the other racers! I'm pretty good at drifting and taking corners real tight.

Last night I gave the Lightening Cup another go. Here's what happened: First two races I got first place. Then the third race, I got hit with a blue shell toward the end of the third lap and just didn't have enough time to recoup. Then on Rainbow Road, I just kept getting slammed by other players and just couldn't get ahead. I placed fourth and got.... SECOND PLACE overall lol.

Well, it could be worse, I suppose. At least I keep getting second overall and not any worse than that. I think it's just coming down to bad luck, getting slammed by other players and blue shells at bad times.

I'm not complaining though. I was getting board racing 50cc and 100cc. I like this level of challenge. If I was able to place first on every cup on my first try, the game wouldn't be any fun.

Yeah that was my experience with the banana cup, no matter how well I would do, it was just not working. Luckily, when I finally did place first in it, I got 3 stars, Hooray! Never have to play that cup in 150CC ever again!

Yeah, hopefully when I finally place first in the Lightening Cup I'll get at least one star. I have at least one star (mostly two or three though) in every other cup except for 150cc Star Cup (which I got first in, just no stars).
