All the media coverage I've read (international and domestic) have been pretty damning of the ref. I really hope this doesn't become a thing (bad ref calls)

When has it not been a thing? It was a thing the last tournament before goal-line technology. I don't think the opening match was fixed, but it was clear simulation on Fred's behalf and instead a penalty and a card was issued.

I'm not talking about match fixing, just bad ref calls. There's really no point in calling a match fixed unless there is evidence, or the calls are THAT obvious.

Anyway let's start talking about today's games :).

I'm rooting for Spain and HARD, after that horrible and very un-sportsmanship way the Netherlands played in the 2010 final (karate kick to the chest and no red card anyone?). I hope Spain kicks their asses.

Cameroon over Mexico. El Tri just don't have it in them, I think. Eto'o is great, even if he is winding down his career. Cameroon have better shirts too, so there's that too.
Spain will cruise past the Netherlands. And yes, hopefully no Double Dragon kicks from De Jong.
Australia vs. Chile will be a great match, but I don't see the Roos squeaking out a win here.

Mexico are much better than Cameroon here. Should be at least one up. Another terrible decision from the linesman.

2 goals canceled, 1 penalty not given....are the refs trying to outdo each other?

The offsides calls were so close, and given the monsoon that is happening, I don't know why the flags weren't kept down. The tackle on the right angle was clearly a penalty.
