Best Clone Consoles?

Post by Forlorn Drifter »

So, out of what has been released in the world thus far, what are the best clone consoles? When I say best, I'm looking at compatability, output options, durability/how sticky pin connections are, and the ability to use original controllers. (Mostly SNES for me)

I want to exclude the Retron5 as of current, although I am aware of it. Excluding that, what would be the best option? Preferably something that covers SNES, NES, and Genny, but just in general.

I also really want to know why nobody has taken the time to make an adapter for N64 to play NES,SNES, and Genesis, or others.

I've owned 7 clone consoles iirc. None were well made, all had tight (too tight) pins for the NES. The Retro Entertainment NES clone was the only one that didn't have a brutally tight connection, but it has horrible controller ports, wire thin AC adapter, and cheap plastic like the rest of them (FC / Retron / Retro Duo, etc).

For 64, there is the Tristar 64, an adapter to play NES and SNES on your 64. It is hideous and expensive but it works.

SNES/SFC Hyperkin SupaBoy
Just for SNES games, but also works with the Japanese imports. Be sure to get the 2.0 version for better compatibility and sound. It can also be hooked up to a TV with standard SNES controllers.

Dunno about clones but those Genesis plug and play consoles work pretty well. I got one at Family Dollar on clearance for about $15 right after Christmas. It had 40 games built in and then a slot for your own carts, plus it has an SD slot to play emulated games on. The emulation isn't perfect for the built in games but it gets the job done, since the point is to play and have fun.

It also helps that Sega approved those systems and their not bootlegged.

I've also liked the Atari Flashback plug and play systems.

I like the Handy FamiEight mainly because it's straight up ridiculous.

Except having 40 licensed Genesis game in one package is much cheaper than buying them on their own, and of course the emulated games are free. Then there's the fact that some people like new stuff and it's not a 20 year old system. It remains to be seen how long they last but can't beat new if it works.

In most every case an old genesis will outlast a new clone system.

If ok with emulated games, who cares about 40, get a flash cart and have them all.

Well, hey man. They made them and they sold them. I bought one and I liked it. I could care less if you buy one.
