Anecdotal, but my grandma lived in Poland during WWII and afterwards for about 15 years and said the Russians were worse to live under.

Well, bugger me. Hollande just acknowledged the USSR's war contribution in his speech at Normandy. Putin did a little clap and everything. Happy now, Pulsar?

You can only imagine how that's going to be portrayed back in Russia right?

(not disagreeing with your post (though I'd say he's close to "as bad as Hitler"), just mentioning a story that's related both to Stalin and the current situation in Ukraine, so people can read about it since it's not really well known in the west)

Thanks for the link. Stalin also perpetrated the forced exile of several ethnic populations which led to many deaths, and probably even the extinction of a few minorities as well. Thankfully Stalinism had not perpetuated after his death.

Interesting rift between the old and new schools of Nazism, even though they're both the same family  It cannot be denied that fascism is alive and well in western Europe.

And now to the subject of Iraq, the first failed state of many in the mideast. What a joke! Dubya must be proud haha.

USA invaded Iraq 10 years ago to bring "democracy" to it, and lets not lie to our selves Saddam days were prosperous compared to whatever is going on there. Isn't 10 years enough to bring Peace to Iraq?

How long did it take to bring peace after WWII?

Bringing democracy was only something used in propaganda. The real reasons for the war probably range from thinking that taking down saddam would make the area more safe, to oil contracts in the region and american private defense companies lobbying for it.

I'm not going to comment on the second part since it's highly disputable, and without proof there's really not much one can talk about.

But as to how this war increased security in the region....well that's a joke/total failure.

If nothing else Iraq became a much bigger breeding ground for islamist terrorist organizations than it could ever have been under saddam.

All those soldiers who died believing they were making the world a better place, were used for the exact opposite result. :(

Saddam was a real asshole, but he was also the asshole that Iraqis deserved outright. He put a lid on sectarian clerics who nowadays have turned the country into a Balkanised joke.
