I think it will have some kind of temporary impact...and that's when I'll strike!

Why not? Some virtual releases have impacted the price of physical carts and some haven't.
Example of any game that dipped, please? (the EB one cited above is inaccurate; it went up further after the virtual release)

Mega Man X has nearly tripled since VC release.
Mega Man X2 has nearly doubled since VC release.

Why not? Because you can already play it on wii via a number of emulators, the wii is by far the easiest past gen console to soft mod and load with roms.

You can play it on SFC for $20.

You can play it in MAME.

Checking the list of VC released NES / SNES / N64 and looking at games with a value of over $20 at time of release, I don't see a single game that has trended downward since VC release.

Yeah, I gotta agree with Mj here - it seems the VC release just brings more attention to the physical release, so it spikes in price after a VC version comes out, and often settles down equal or higher to where it sat in price beforehand.

I agree with Mike. You can even get games like Mario Kart 64 for the VC for free via Club Nintendo. Prices of those games aren't going down either. Their may be momentary dips but people still want to own the physical product and are willing to pay to do so.

Actually, the EB example is accurate - I know this because I tracked it myself for almost a month before prices began to creep back up. I'm not going to disagree with you, SNES games seem to be the go-to console for new retrogamers and will likely only continue to increase as time goes on, but I'm hoping for a slight dip in prices before things go back up again. It seems that almost everything retro is increasing in price, regardless of console, but it's more pronounced with the SNES games. Neither one of us know the future, so we'll see how it pans out.

It's hit and miss. Radiant Silvergun seems down, Earthbound doesn't.

It's wired because the target audience is fighting game enthusiasts who only play with wired controllers.
