If you look at this image and you only see a marginally sharper image, then in all seriousness you might want to get your eyes checked out.

Outside of the resolution, do you not notice the massive difference in texture resolution? The Wii has such a low amount of useable ram for textures that they are always a muddy mess.

"Better graphics" is such a relative term anyway. I'd argue that Ys Book I & II on Turbo CD looks superior to anything I've seen on XBox One because I personally prefer colorful hand-drawn / anime / pixel art graphics to "realistic" stuff. It's all about aesthetic preferences. Likewise, I think the Wii U has the "best looking" games so far this gen.

Same thing with SNES vs N64 for me - technically yes, the N64 has better specs, but it sure looks a hell of a lot worse than the Super Nintendo.

I think this is more of a case of preferring an art style than graphics.

Wait are you saying that what is considered good graphics is subjective based on a person's preference? BLASPHEMY! GET OFF THIS INTERNET THIS INSTANT! :D

But when we are talking games that are ports of one another you can do a direct 1:1 comparison. Nothing about the same game with lower res models, muddy textures, things removed to conserve memory, etc than another port can ever be considered "better".

How many games were released on all 3 platforms? I'd be genuinely interested in consensus reviews.

Maybe leave sports out of it to trim the list.

@emwearz - re: those pics, I'm missing it, are the screen shots from different consoles - I guess I don't understand what i'm commenting on. Both shots look very nice.

They are both of the Wii version and both referring to the low resolution textures that are used on the system because of the low VRam/Ram.

This is not the best 1:1 comparison shot, but you get the idea. Look at the low res texturing on the solders uniform.

I was almost fooled before, despite your reputation... But now I know you're just trolling.

If the PS3/Blu-ray player is hooked up via component, then it's being hobbled at least a little bit. At the very least, it's limited to 1080i rather than 1080p, and depending on the disc it may have the Image Constraint Token part of AACS active, and if so, will be downsampled to 960x540.

Additionally, Blu-ray will only output lossless audio codecs over HDCP compliant HDMI. Otherwise, it's just the same compressed audio quality that DVD does.

Effectively, sure, if someone is running a Blu-ray player on component/optical, then by design, the output may be getting cut down to barely over DVD quality.
