My comment wasn't passive aggressive. Another word thrown around by people who don't quite know what it means. I assertively said I don't see the difference, I don't think others do either, but rather the consensus is this, so it must be so.

@emwearz - what is that comment a fanboy of - smaller TV's? I could give 2 shakes about any company / developer / console, etc.

*exhale* I'm done.
Re: Wii-U thoughts so far
This is the part where it goes passive aggressive. Stopping with "I don't see the difference and I bet a lot of other people don't either" is an assertive statement, continuing as you did makes it a "but I guess we must be wrong, so whatever" passive aggressive thing.mjmjr25 wrote:My comment wasn't passive aggressive. I stated X, and you replied with an argument that had nothing to do with my comment. In doing so, you implied I only thought that way because the masses told me so, discrediting any valid opinion I may have, accuse me of being a fanboy, and say I don't know what words mean.
I state what I am to counter that it is 'subconcious', and maybe I based my opinion off some level competency and personal observation, but nope we can't see anything different than what you see apparently. You cannot notice a difference in the screen shots posted?

Come on guys, one love.
Back to Wii, I am really excited about what Nintendo has in store for tomorrow.

Mike can you tell the difference, on the same HDTV, between a HD broadcast TV show/sports game/whatever and a standard-def TV show/sports game/whatever?
Can you tell the difference between a DVD and Blu-Ray of the same movie on the same TV?
Not trying to pick a fight, I am just genuinely curious if you can tell if a picture is in HD or not, even on a ~40inch TV.

^I was paraphrasing a mash up of previous comments called passive aggressive in the correct context. Next up we can discuss irony.MrPopo wrote:This is the part where it goes passive aggressive. I have a multitude of blu ray / dvd combo packs an really don't see an increase worthy of moving my blu ray player (ps3) to another room when we're watching a family movie. I do think there are deeper colors and marginally sharper image, again, on my largest TV, but really nothing significant.
I can only go off personal experience, blu ray / dvd combos aside, I put up Goldeneye and Madden 08, back to back on my Regza and found them nigh identical on Wii. Point of fact, the wii had better color saturation on Goldeneye, on PS3 the many backgrounds were too dark and appear cobbled together.
Re: Wii-U thoughts so far
Yeah if you can't tell the diff, then yeah I suppose you might see less distinction between Wii and PS3. But, even in Goldeneye, you should see this:mjmjr25 wrote:^I was paraphrasing a mash up of previous comments called passive aggressive in the correct context. @dsh tl;dr answer, no, not really RE: blu ray and whatnot.

I don't know that it's possibile to see that first image and see it as "the same" or "worse". I do wonder if you don't have your PS3 set to output Hi Def or if your TV is configured wrong.
Here's two clearer shots:
PS3:

Wii:

Surely you can see the difference in terms of graphics, no? In motion it should be even more clear with more particle effects, a faster framerate, more textures, enemies, etc. on the PS3...

Re: Wii-U thoughts so far
The first pic, the first set of images ps3 does look better.
The second images - I think they both look excellent and neither appears crisper or clearer to me. You could have easily reversed "Wii" and "PS3" for the screen shots and I wouldn't know which is supposed to look better.
As for configured correctly - I have no clue. I don't mess with settings ever (unless something isn't giving me picture or sound).
Here's a question I have. Remember about 7 years ago, they started advertising Blu Ray and showing what it could look like? I remember specifically the first Pirates otC intro doing this - and the pictures look magnificent; then the movie came on and it looked fine. This was a standard DVD, on a standard DVD player, yet the advertisement for Blu Ray looked epic. How did they improve the quality of image on the DVD to advertise the Blu Ray? Only to revert back to SD for the movie - clearly it was possible to make the image deeper / crisper in the promo on a standard DVD w/standard DVD player using Component video.

Re: Wii-U thoughts so far
I'd grant you that this is one of the better Wii games (visually) against one of the poorrer PS3 FPSs (visually), but I still think the differences are pretty obvious in terms of the amount of detail, aliasing, and lots of other measures of graphical performance/effects/etc. I suppose you just don't have an eye for it...mjmjr25 wrote:The first pic, the first set of images ps3 does look better.

Do you think Half Life 1 looks more or less like Half Life 2? Or that DoDonPachi looks about the same as DoDonPachi Resurrection?
I think you must have your TV(s) configured to output standard def only or some such. There's no "marketing trickery" going on with visual fidelity between DVD and Blu-Ray, the difference is measurable and significant (in bitrate, resolution, etc.)As for configured correctly - I have no clue.
