Shining Force for Game Gear - Battery Question

Post by ReddMcKnight »

Hey all. I just read that Shining Force: Sword of Hajya for Game Gear has a "faulty save battery" which causes saved games to delete by themselves. I replaced the battery recently, and all seems to be well, but I'm still curious: Is this the fault of the original battery, or is it likely a PCB problem? If anyone knows, please let me know. Thanks.

The battery is what keeps the save file alive. Any chance the holder could be loose resulting in the battery disconnecting? I've replaced a few batteries in Game Boy cartridges and I always have to tape them down.

I just checked my copy, and the ~20-year-old saves are still there, for whatever that's worth. I don't recall hearing about lost saves, but it has also been a long time since I've played.
