Sure they did. First couple generations, until at least 3rd or 4th. If for no other reason than because the graphics couldn't really support anything not-kid-friendly as a rule

And yes, I'm aware of the existence of Bubble Bath Babes, Halloween, Custer's Revenge and other games of that ilk from back then, but they were definitely the exception rather than the rule (the rule being what it seems to be these days)

I'm honestly not sure. I work overnights (hence my weird-hours posting on here for a guy who's east coast US) so I rarely if ever see my postman. But my grandfather worked as a postman back in the day, and they were definitely assigned a given route at that time. They come 6 days a week though, so I don't know if they work less than 8 hours a day to compensate for that, or if there's 2 people assigned a given route?

Dunno. Never really looked. Was mostly just using a figure of speech :)

I say if you only want to play ds games then get a 3ds, you get all the ds and 3ds games in a nice package. Then later down the road get a ds just for the sake of having it for the few games(if you get the lite) that support gba games and special features using the gba games...

And postmen, there's usually 1 or 2 I saw every week(for some odd reason I used to always want to check the mail out of boredom a few months ago and would actually see them) and maybe one that was just a substitute one...

What, no, if you only want to play DS games, please do not buy a 3DS. A DS will play DS games better, could also play GBA depending on the model, and is certainly going to be cheaper than a 3ds. You would be paying more money for an inferior experience.

Now, if you are interested in the 3ds and ds libraries both, then yes, get a 3ds.

The post office assigns specific routes to them. They work 5 days a week, but if they have been there long enough, their days off are Saturday and Sunday. They can choose to work on Saturday and get time and a half pay or half a days pay and a vacation day. Believe me, with my mom working at the post office, I know how they work

I've never had a bad time with the few times I have played sm64(only game I've really wanted to play lately out of my ds library which is sad). I can't say it's inferior or bad. I'd rather play on it and only have to carry around one system and come on who wouldn't want to play 3ds games. But to be honest the ds lite is nice but I wouldn't get it unless you really really want to play games that made use of the gba slot or don't have a gba already...the ds lite just isn't my favorite ds right now...it was nice for it's time(and I really didn't explore much of the library as much as I should've because even during the ds time I really wanted to go to psp...those rpgs enticed me and I never heard of ds rpgs at the time)
