Post by thejamessea »

Is there a good way to get a PS2 controller (standard corded model) to work on PS3?

Second question : Street Fighter 4 - Who's getting this awesome shizz??

Yes, there are plenty of converters on the market. I believe Sony make genuine ones, but there are heaps of generic branded ones out there. Search places like DealExtreme.

If you shelled out lots of cash for PS2 controllers (say, quality arcade-style joysticks, which aren't cheap), a $15 converter beats the hell out of a new $100+ stick.

Not on PS3 I won't. But PC is currently looking like the preferred option for me. Unless of course it's a long wait from official console release to PC release, then I might bow to the pressure and get an XBox 360 seeing as they're dirt cheap at the moment.

Yes, don't buy any of these PS2 -> PS3 converters though. It's a fallacy made up to make people believe that these adaptors are 'special' and you need to get a special PS3 version for it to work.

ANY PS2 to USB adaptor will work. I bought my PS2 - USB adaptor for £7 about 3-4 years ago. It works perfectly fine with the PS3. Everything works on it.

To answer the 'why would you want to'. Perhaps he only has one sixaxis/dualshock and doesn't want to pay for another overpriced controller? Or maybe he has a decent PS2 compatible arcade stick and doesn't want to pay through the nose for a 'PS3' arcade stick.

Thanks guys. And to answer the question of why I'd want this, others already have. I have one of those limited edition Street Fighter arcade sticks and I'd like to use it with the new game. Hopefully it works. I don't see why it wouldn't with one of these USB adapters.

Every time I post a question on here, I dread the inevitable "why would you want to do THAT?" answer that will undoubtedly be the first response. Hasn't everybody on here realized yet that people are asking questions to get constructive solutions/feedback rather than justifying WHY they're asking?
