Re: Summer Games Challenge 2014
Anyone know why the fuck the game designers of Star Tropics decided to only refill three of your hearts upon continuing? I'm starting to realize that this otherwise fun game suffers from the same problems most NES-era games do - mean-spirited and highly frustrating design. I really doubt I'll be able to beat this thing without murdering at least one kitten.

Then those designers add the heart requirements for you to use the weapons you get later in the game -- HARUMPH!
Yes, this game frustrated me at one point. Where are you currently?

What the hell is up with some of these items in Symphony of the Night?
A meal ticket? Is there a cafeteria in the castle?
Library cards? What am I supposed to do - check out books? How about Bram Stoker's Dracula? Nyuk nyuk nyuk.

Wandering through the caves in Chapter 3, up to the Genie. I'm honestly considering giving up and playing Zelda instead. I don't have the patience to constantly restart the same levels over and over and over until I can perform a perfect run, especially with the handicaps and questionable control the game has.ExedExes wrote:Then those designers add the heart requirements for you to use the weapons you get later in the game -- HARUMPH!

The original Zelda is like 47865437883 times better than StarfyTropics.

Chapter 3 is a rather frustrating part of the game, with many caves and 2 bosses to fight. I can understand your issues with the controls.Retrogamer0001 wrote:Wandering through the caves in Chapter 3, up to the Genie. I'm honestly considering giving up and playing Zelda instead. Poisona is a common spell in the FF series, as is Esuna, and they're usually two different things.darsparx wrote:@bone by the way in the 20th anniversary edition, it's not called esuna it's called poisona....man is that cheesy translation
Re: Summer Games Challenge 2014
Well it cures poison apparently in the anniversary edition of ff1 like esuna supposedly does...

Re: Summer Games Challenge 2014
Esuna usually does. It just tends to be a far more generalized status removal spell than Poisona. As that article notes, the Origins version of FF1 called Poisona Esuna, but that's more an oddity.
Tacking 'a' or 'na' on a status for the removal spell isn't uncommon for the series when it has individual removal spells. If it's got one big catch-all, like ARR does, then Esuna would be a likely name.
