Mine does too. With the prevalence of smoking in Japan, I wouldn't be surprised if they still do new these days.fastbilly1 wrote: Both of my Pachis have them, but I do not own a cab that has that.

Fighting game arcade stories? Ok, I've got one.
I wish I remembered exactly when but I'm going to say 1999/around 2000.
Soul Calibur was still new in everyone's minds. This particular arcade I was at finally got a cabinet in. I liked Maxi (and still do on the DC port), and I'm not real skilled by any means, but I knew a few button combinations for good moves. I'm playing and this one guy comes up and puts a credit in. I win. I'm good for another 5-10 minutes. He COMES BACK and goes "you embarrassed me in front of my friends!" so he tries again. I win. Repeat this process 1-2 more times, so over the course of a half hour, I "embarrassed" him nearly 5 times over.

Yesterday:
"Gosh, I'm sure glad my gaming mouse isn't broken. I'm especially glad since my mouse is out of warranty."
Today:
*mouse wheel breaks again*
"...Ffffffuuuck."
Also, I drew a 1-Up mushroom in Inkscape a few days ago.

So why are we not seeing more mecha games like Steel Battalion?
The time seems right with the powerful consoles, speedy internet for online gaming, social networking, people pouring money into videogames like crazy, big TVs, and multiplayer is all the rage.
I would like to play a game where i operate a drone/mecha and and push buttons on a console to fire rockets and lasers. I know the controllers are expensive but I always thought they were over-priced and there was a way to make them cheaper. People bought plastic guitars for rhythm games so why not this.

Re: Random Gaming Thoughts
Mecha, in general, is niche. If you want to know why there aren't a billion Steel Battalion games and clones, it's because the sales of Steel Battalion weren't great. It barely justified a sequel, and that sequel didn't even do well (it was also pretty largely panned due to the Kinect controls)
Mech simulators would work really well in an arcade environment ... but those are just gone now. And the revival arcades don't have the room (or money) for gigantic simulators.

The best we have right now is MechWarrior Online, which is still going through growing pains and I have no idea how badly the Clan tech will screw with the balance.

Re: Random Gaming Thoughts
SO wish I had grabbed a Steel Battalion set (or 2, or 3) when they were being clearanced out at $50 back in the day. At the time I wasn't as big on my collecting as I am now, and didn't have anything Xbox related. Now I'm kicking myself.
Gunning for a licensed NES NTSC-U set, follow the madness and poverty here!
Cheat sheet of my collection, always looking to increase it. 405/677 licensed games, 46/"95" unlicensed
