This looks intriguing... it could be huge for Nintendo and possibly the blockbuster the Wii U needs.
I really don't see Super Mario meets Little Big Planet being a major blockbuster, but at least it will feature something "new" compared to the previous New Super Mario Bros games.

Inflation doesn't matter. They can apparently lose $250 million for the next 38 years before running out of money. $250 million is a lot in 2014, and I'm willing to bet it's still gonna be a lot in 2050, even if it is worth a little less.

All that projection is doing is taking their cash reserves at the time, and dividing it up by approximately the money they've been losing annually for the past few years.

Inflation would matter, at least to a point, and so would the strength of the Yen. Additional expenditures, like the chunk they took out of it earlier this year buying back stock, would also cut down on that significantly.

More recent figures, and accounting for that buyback, indicate that a lot more of those reserves have been chipped away in the past 18-24 months than what that little factoid would assume. Seems more like they've gone from a $10.5 billion reserve to maybe $7.5 billion or so from 2012 to early 2014.

They've certainly got some breathing room, but assuming that they have several decades of it might be a little optimistic.

Why hasn't Nintendo taken my re-release of the SNES and popular games suggestion more seriously? I swear, it's a good idea!

You're over thinking it. The point of the little factoid is that Nintendo has an insane amount of money in the bank. Most people can't comprehend how much 1 billion dollars is, even less 10 billion. So it's put into perspective for you by saying that, at the time that article was posted, that Nintendo would have to lose something like $250 a year for the next 40 years before going broke.

ejamer wrote:Any Canadian hold-outs for Wii U ownership should check their local Target. Deluxe consoles (without a pack-in) are marked down to $150 - although finding stock is definitely a "your mileage" affair.

Also worth noting that Target has a handful of other great Nintendo-related deals going on right now. A handful of games, controllers, accessories, and 3DS XL systems are all marked down half price. Crazy stuff - best prices I've seen in a long time.
Yes sir. I just got MK8 at Target today for $10 off. I really didn't expect to see that 1 week after release, but I'll take it.
