I read somewhere that Croc was going to be a stand alone Yoshi game. But the publishers and Nintendo never worked things out. A few things were added and some removed, and boom! Croc!

The prototype to Super Mario 64 was made on the SNES using mode-7

I recently found out the story behind Sega's original Joe Montana Football. Turns out they contracted Activision (then known as Mediagenic) to develop it because they had a football game under development at about 30 percent completion. During the course of development, Sega had no idea of the issues at Activision/Mediagenic that were delaying their game until it was too late for them to even finish the game in time for the holiday season, so they turned to EA who had something called John Madden Football. By that time, EA was already on its way to circumventing Sega's licensing policy for cartridges by disabling Sega's lockout technology on the Genesis (much like Tengen did to avoid Nintendo's policy on the NES), so when Sega came to EA to ask for them to make a Joe Montana game with the John Madden engine, they struck a deal, with Sega getting their game from EA and EA got a cost reduction on Sega's licensing fees as well as the ability to manufacture their own cartridges (with the familiar yellow side tab)

Did you see that in the Console Wars book, or come across it elsewhere?

I first saw it on the latest Generation 16 video here starting at 23:50. Then a few days later I got Console Wars, and added a few more bits from there

This is making an insane amount of sense to me, right now.Jagosaurus wrote:Resident Evil 3 was actually meant to be a side story & Code Veronica is the true RE3. Capcom had to make Nemesis a "numbered" title due to a deal with Sony.

I remember reading in an interview years and years ago that there were extra scenes/events that the creator of Ecco the Dolphin had planned for the original game, but which were cut out due to either space or time constraints.
I can't believe I've never checked this myself, but the messages related to those scenes are apparently retained in the game in the form of off-screen glyphs that you can ping in one of the Jurassic levels.
