By far this has been the best review. This is also the only one that could make me second-guess my decision. However, with firmware patches already in place, and no sign of them stopping these patches any time soon, I'm still going to pick one up. Still not worth $140 though...ExedExes wrote:Pat the NES Punk's review is up here.

this is currently my thinking.
I just packed away my NES and Genesis 2 months ago, so I'm not about to pull it all out on an unproven system. Not digging the price tag either after it was priced @ $99.99 originally. Will probably get one because I have games on majority of the systems it plays, especially Famicom and SFam.
For now, I'm getting kicks with some DC emulation.

They need to rethink the way the system recognizes ROMS. Cutting out homebrews is a real shame.

I thought Gamester and someone else said that you could still play games it didn't know as long as they were something it could dump. So homebrews and multicarts (where all of the information was immediately available) would work, but anything where if was a piggyback where the system only saw the boot program of the cart, but not the roms that boot program would grab didn't work.Gunstar Green wrote:They need to rethink the way the system recognizes ROMS. Taking bets on how long before this thing is hacked and people are just playing ROMs straight from the SD card, that is when I will buy

Again, why not just use an Ouya for that?ninjainspandex wrote:Taking bets on how long before this thing is hacked and people are just playing ROMs straight from the SD card, that is when I will buy

I'd have to buy multiple usb adapters for every single system, rather have a nice slick compact emulation device.Jmustang1968 wrote:Again, why not just use an Ouya for that?ninjainspandex wrote:Taking bets on how long before this thing is hacked and people are just playing ROMs straight from the SD card, that is when I will buy

That's what I thought too but according to Pat's review that's not the case. None of his homebrews worked. If the system doesn't recognize it, it won't play. That's something I was afraid of.Hobie-wan wrote:I thought Gamester and someone else said that you could still play games it didn't know as long as they were something it could dump. I've been really enjoying the Retron. I was up until 2 am last night playing F-Zero Maximum Velocity and it ran perfectly. Today, I've been spending time with Yoshi's Island for GBA. I am really impressed with how well the Retron is scaling the GBA games.
My daughter watching me play some Yoshi's Island.
The controller isn't bad either. I find myself using it more because of the wireless. I like the clicky noise for F-Zero since it helps me judge the way I am cornering with the acceleration.

I have a feeling these review units aren't the same as shipped units. Almost all who have the the review unit mentions not being able to use controlers across all platforms, were as hyperkin keeps saying cross play is still a feature. Also with dumping saves to and from I have heard conflicting reports. Any reviews yet that aren't review early models?
Ferretgamer, any save issues? Controller issues? Yours is 2.0 version were reviews seem to be 1.1 versions.
