Abandonware is to me a necessary evil. Many games will never get rereleased period, so it is the only way they can live on.
Case in point, many years ago a company gave a friend of mine their game, since he was their biggest fan and maintained their website, BBS, and IRC channel. The game was Big Red Racing by Big Red Software:
It was a clever mix of Mario Kart and Micro Machines, and is a solid lan party title. However when the company was going under, they gave him the rights to the title as a gift. Sadly a few years ago he was killed in a traffic collision and no one knows where the paperwork is. Sure you might be able to track down the creators, but after several years of trying to do it casually, well thats not going to happen without a very concentrated effort - last year I tried to get some of the old farts in my gaming group to help me do it (since some of them were in talks with Big Red back in the day) so we could get GOG to release the game for free, but after three months of scouring contact information and sending out emails, we got nothing back.

He's dead serious! He owns the licenses to the ROMS in his MAME cabinet. Every single one! As American as apple pie!Exhuminator wrote:I hope he is serious, because I find it hilarious if he's actually perpetually pissed off and disgusted with this forum every time he logs on, yet keeps coming back due to masochistic impulse.nightrnr wrote:I never know when to take you seriously.
