Another thing I've noticed, especially with the current PS4 VS Xbone graphics debate going on, I can immediately tell that the graphics and resolution are much better and higher on the high-end PC. But then if I go and play the same game on the 360 or the PS3 later on, I almost don't even notice a difference. The games are just as fun. The Batman Arkham games come to mind. They look amazing with all the bells and whistles turned on with a GTX 780ti, but you almost don't feel like you're missing anything when played on a console. You pretty much would need each version side by side to notice anything different. I consider myself a videophile, but when I'm having fun in a game, I really just don't notice.

Re: Random Gaming Thoughts
The human eye can only process so much detail at once. Without motion, high end graphics look great standing still to the human eye. But in motion, the eye can not register as much of the detail and process it. That's why things in motion appear blurry to us. The faster something moves, the more blurry it becomes. Therefore most of that high end PC detail in motion is simply extraneous lost information insofar as the eye is concerned. Thus as long as the frame rates are consistent, the human eye will be just as happy with a less detailed console version in motion, as it would a highly detailed PC one. It biologically can't tell the difference.pvt_awol wrote:They look amazing with all the bells and whistles turned on with a GTX 780ti, but you almost don't feel like you're missing anything when played on a console.

Yeah I could buy that. I'm definitely more into the quicker constant-pressure type of games (which is probably why I get my ass kicked against good players -- I don't block nearly enough, just try to counter-attack and dodge), although to be honest I'm only a half-step above button masher.BogusMeatFactory wrote:I have always been of the firm belief that fighting games have a lot more in common with rhythm games than any other. Each game has a unique pacing and rhythm that feels unique and really gels well with a particular person. For me, the pacing of Samsho is perfect for me. I enjoy the slower, more methodical gameplay. It, much like the Virtua Fighter series, has a very, "Action/Reaction," style that really appeals to me. When a fighting game clicks, it really is a beautiful thing! Keep up the good fight!
One thing that is definitely driving me a little crazy -- I need to look up a moves list. I usually like learning multiple different characters rather than really focusing on one, just because I enjoy the variety, but there are just SO MANY CHARACTERS. Granted, it's from oldschool era of gaming so it's not like the button presses are TOO crazy -- quarter circles, half circle backwards and forward, and shoryuken motion will cover most of them. But I'd like to know which characters have which.
Gunning for a licensed NES NTSC-U set, follow the madness and poverty here!

This is what keeps me from playing fighting games in general. I hate memorizing all that shit. I picked a game off my shelf the other day, I think it was Dead or Alive 3, looked at the moves list, said "nope", and reshelved it.KalessinDB wrote: One thing that is definitely driving me a little crazy -- I need to look up a moves list. "Too many buttons that do too much stuff" is something that keeps me away from modern games in general. I'm perfectly content with the most simplistic control schemes - platformers were you jump/attack, shmups with attack/special, and RPGs with confirm/cancel. Don't really need much else. Guess I'm a pretty lazy gamer.

Re: Random Gaming Thoughts
You can enjoy DOA games knowing just 3 buttons: attack, block, grab. Stop depriving yourself a great time. Play DOA2 if you have it. Now.

DOA has a great "Counter" mechanic too, that is simple timing. Tough to get right at first, but so worth it. I remember playing on the Dreamcast at launch, and the first time I countered someone into the background. Ah...... memories.

Re: Random Gaming Thoughts
My wife hates games w/ too many buttons. She gave up on TR Legend for that reason. But she loves DOA2 and is damn good at it.
