both of those options sound just awful.
Cosmetically it may look bad if you leave the cables laying around but I've never had issue with quality extension cables. Really depends on the setup though . I have Extension cables for the majority of my wired controllers that are kept stashed away in a cabinet when I'm not using them. My TV upstairs is only 10-12 feet away from where I sit so I use them on a regular basis up there.
My favorite is the GAME ELEMENTS Recoil Duo Extension Cable that I have for my PS2. It's 9 feet long but I've never noticed any lag when using it and I usually just wind it up and put it next to the TV when I'm done. Wish they had done these for a few other systems they rock. Might actually pick one up for the gamecube and xbox if I ever find them cheap.

I'd also vote for the extensions. I'm using one for my SNES controller and it allows me to sit on the other side of the room on the sofa with no issues.
I always chuckle when people freak out about a wire running across the floor to play games. You can always roll the cord up when you're done with it. Wireless wasn't always an option. If it was, it was probably pretty shitty.

Gamester81 posted his Retron 5 review today. Except for the erroneous information about not being able to use any controller on any game (you can, he said you couldn't, this was confirmed by Hyperkin), he did a really good job showing many of its features and 1 game from each console too.

The excitement is building. More people are getting word from Amazon about their units shipping. I would have pre-ordered from Amazon had I been given the chance; I had to go with Newegg. Fortunately it's the gray one, so I'm hoping for my confirmation email in the next few days.
