It illustrates the tension that arises between "haves" and "have nots" when a valuable item is/isn't reprinted.
Re: Is Gamestop Evil? The Good, The Bad and The Ugly
To go into more detail, there is a list, called the Reserve List, for Magic the Gathering of cards they will not reprint. It was originally created the first time they made a set that was entirely reprints (and they overprinted that set) that had a major effect on the secondary market (tanking prices across the board). They stopped adding cards to the Reserve List 15 years ago because they realized it was overall bad for the game to tie their hands in that way, but they are maintaining the existence of it because they want to maintain the promise they made to the collectors who want the prices on those items to remain high. There are a lot of powerful staple cards on the Reserve List which makes getting into formats that use older cards much harder.dedalusdedalus wrote:Magic: the Gathering reference.wclem wrote:Kind of lost but uh... ok I think.MrPopo wrote:So that's the mentality of the people who screwed us over with the Reserve List. That is not clear if the games are reprinted or just shipped from a clearing house or the refurbish center? All the recent copies of Dokopan disc only that just popped up have that dreaded R sticker on the back, proof they came from the Gamestop refurbish center.pepharytheworm wrote:I have already mentioned this to you before. They can add a new condition case from their existing stock of used games and even print up a cover. Unfortunately the manual once gone cannot be reproduced by Gamestop. They can also request the publisher to CREATE more copies, but only will happen on a very rare circumstance. Defintely not for an older console and highly unlikely from Atlus known for low one time production runs.
I do not trust that online reserve ordering, a chance if the game will be complete or not. I rather have the store telephone for a visual to ensure a CIB copy.
Here is some they reprinted:
Atelier Iris
Atelier Iris 2
Atelier Iris 3
Chaos Wars
Cubivore
Dual Hearts
Gitaroo Man
Makai Kingdom
Persona 2
Resident Evil 2 and 3
Rhapshody
Rez
Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne
Suikoden 3
I was a Store Manager for Gamestop and had first hand knowledge on some of these reprints. On our weekly conference calls we discussed reprint games bought in bulk coming in. The sources weren't mentioned in these calls, a lot of that I found out from DMs and other Store Managers. Every single one we marked as used.
The Gamestop Refurbish Center only polishes EXISTING game discs.
As you mentioned, sources were not discussed. I really do not see any proof of actual reprints of the games and also exclusive to Gamestop. Whole Sale clearing houses of existing copies or more likely buybacks such as Metroid Trilogy as the "sources". Really, where is the proof of other then hearsay guesstimates?

Re: Is Gamestop Evil? The Good, The Bad and The Ugly
I've recently been informed by my friendly GameStop staff that there is no longer any detriment on their behalf if you decide to cancel a pre-order through them.
I've always felt bad when doing so, especially when it's a different employee than the one I made the pre-order with, so it is nice to know that corporate policy has changed. I'd definitely put this in the "good" category.

I still stinks if you go in there and the employee isn't at least a little bit questionative and talkative in some of their stores kinda creates a welcoming feel it seems like i only get everywhere else in multiple places throughout the store compared
....I keep remembering why I like going to the matthews store if any of their stores(not to mention they had some psp games I wanted to pick up if they still have them).

This is true, to a degree. I'd say that 95% of the employees at my local GS stores are ignorant to games. While they are nice, and welcome you as soon as you walk in, they seem like they either don't know anything about games, or don't care. This can be kind of frustrating, since they'll follow me around and bother me. It's kind of just a personal peeve I guess. I know that there isn't a pre-requisite to love games in order to work there, but it would greatly help to know the product better.
There are the few that do love games. Those are the ones I end up talking to for far too long, when there is a line behind me. LOL. I'm sure that we've all had this same experience.

Well at least that's not the case with the store I'm thinking of, they are generally nice and knowledgable which is a big shock knowing their employees from time to time.
