Setting HDTV to 4:3

Hey guys I have a problem. I used to have a nice CRT tv in my room. My brother won a Tv so gave me his old Samsung led HDTV. My already gave my old tv to my aunt so I'm stuck with this new one.

It automatically stretches the image on its own. I cant play it like that. I set the picture size to 4:3 and its better. The problem is after a while it switches to stretched. I don't have the remote so I have to get up to change it.

Does anyone know how to set it so it stays in 4:3, so it never changes back? I want that s video input to always display in 4:3, not switch to stretched while I'm playing. I don't know if I'm missing an option or something. Any advice would be appreciated.

I switch to 4:3 on my Pioneer LCD and it works great. I used to have a 50" Panasonic which in 16:9 when playing Wii through component would every so often kind of crop and zoom in the image, would have to change the channel and back again to get the right resolution back.

Did your TV come with a manual?

I've never had mine switch picture settings automatically like that (I have a Samsung as well). The setting stays even if I turn the TV off, until I change it back. You're not changing inputs or anything right?

Try to get a Remote for it. Somewhere in the Menu might be a Stretch or Full Screen option that has to be adjusted. I actually prefer utilizing the entire screen, though I have the reverse situation. HD 4:3 CRT; fill up the tube when watching a widescreen movie.

On my older Samsung plasma the remote button is "P. Size". I'm pretty sure the remote is the only way to get there. Do you know anyone else with a Samsung that you could perhaps borrow the remote to try and get it switched?

Like Hobie-wan said, on the Samsung flat-screens I've used (Plasma, LCD & LED). The picture size [P. Size] button on the remote switches between full-screen stretch, several zooms, 4x3, and screen fit (crop black edges). All their remotes are similar, so the P. Size button should be near the bottom. IIRC, you can also access that from the tools menu activated from the [Tools] button on the remote (on mine it was a triangle just outside the directional control). I think you can also set the border/window box background color for 4x3 mode from the screen burn-in options in the main menu (Grey or black).

I have three Samsung sets and on every single one it's under Picture > Picture Options > Size.

All of them are navigable without the remote, as well, and they all retain the size chosen per source.

In terms of what buttons on the TV to push, it depends on what buttons are there. If it's multiple buttons, then channel is used for cycling, if it has source that's used for selection if it doesn't then volume is used. Another TV has a joystick like button selector, and all of that is done through that device. To close that menu you just hold it in.

But the option is in the same place on all three of the TVs, the plasmas are five model years apart, and the third TV is a HD CRT.
