Which have exploded? The rarer Capcom ones have always been pricey so i'd imagine their escalation curve is probably jumping higher than others.FerretGamer wrote:The Dreamcast is going on 15 years, which means it's getting out of the stable phase. Project Justice is absolutely incredible in its price.
Capcom shmups and fighters are pretty up there in price.
And most everything that's common/uncommon have risen $1-$5 in price.
I still have like 70 games I need to snag for it, too.

This was definitely my takeaway from going through mine last night. Outside of some of the 2K and 2K1 sports titles, everything was up. The 2K2 ones (NHL and NBA esp) have seen a bump too.Blu wrote:Project Justice is absolutely incredible in its price.

Cannon Spike has more than doubled in a year. It used to routinely go for $30 or so in 2013 and it's now going for over $75.retrosportsgamer wrote:Which have exploded? I seriously blame YouTube videos that made collecting and reviewing videogames from past times a "cool" thing to do. When I first joined this forum, no one cared for retro games. People looked at them as electronics junk, like old radios and broken CD players. Now its all the rage.
Re: How is your Dreamcast gaming going on?
It's the internet's fault... Think about it. Before, shops would stock retro goods and it would be a niche market. They would have to rely on the right audience entering the shop and buying the products. This meant prices were relatively low.
Now you have the internet, with all the members of this niche audience, in one place, buying the same products. Or in the case of Ebay, literally fighting and bidding over the same items. This drives prices up.
So most shops have stopped stocking retro goods, because people would rather sell on Ebay than trade their entire retro collection in at Gamestop for 5 bucks off a new game. Whilst the shops know it's pointless stocking retro when everyone will just buy off Ebay or online shops anyways, so the shops stick to mass market, mainstream games. And the few games shops that do sell retro, mostly try and match Ebay prices, because that's now the "standard", which sometimes alienates an audience that expects a "fairer" price.

I recall that one being more in the $40-$50 range back in '11-'13 but regardless, still a big jump and a good example.FerretGamer wrote:Cannon Spike has more than doubled in a year. At the same time, if collecting older games wasn't as high profile, there would be more sitting in attics, basements, or even being thrown away because "nobody want to play that old crap".

Collecting for the Dreamcast is a niche market in a niche market while more popular(in the US) than the Saturn it wasnt to popular with the masses. Lots of games only sold a few thousand copies. So there isnt 400,000 copies of game X like on the PS2 floating around. I consistently see DC games and systems been sold for next to nothing on Craigslist in my area. I suppose some of these people think this is a old system and its junk. Still I think more say no one wants a Dreamcast and or its games. I suspect a bunch of these games were actually thrown away. Still i do think its the internet has artificially inflated some of these prices.
Curtsy when you walk by that Dreamcast
Re: How is your Dreamcast gaming going on?
I do not mind that prices go up by value, but what I believe is happening that one guy think his "X" game for NGC is worth $40 . The other 400 sellers then think " Why am I selling this for $10 ?" then everyone else raises his price and the guy who is trying to sell below "market price" is going to sell it for $35 and he thinks he is giving you a good deal.
Then comes other ebay sellers and look at game "X" price over time, and notice this game was only $10 last year, its $40 this year, maybe I can buy them and sell them for $55 next year. So the hoarding starts. Just like the real estate market, its a bubble.
There is this one guy on Ebay who I believe wants to sell a VHS tape for $20 or so, I offered him $5 or $10. But he refused to even reply to me, he re-listed the item. Who is going to pay $20 for VHS movie that is NOT rare and the DVD is actually cheaper (will last longer too) . These guys would rather re-list an item for the price they want for 3 or 4 years instead of making a reasonable profit now.
