Whoops! I get the two "of Sorrow" games confused quite often.
Also...yeah...you really need to play Dawn of Sorrow. It is much better than its GBA predecessor, and I am confident you will enjoy it tremendously if you hold Aria of Sorrow in high esteem.

your right, I'm adding it to my summer gaming list right now. Which I seem to be making up as I go along
R-Type Delta is still killing me. I breeze through the first four levels - all of which once seemed impossible - but the fifth is just a beast. (Basically, the fifth level takes some of the hardest enemies and sections from the original R-Type and throws them at you all at once.) The stage also ends with a trio of "retro" bosses.
I enjoy the fan service, but I don't appreciate the fact that they consistently kick my ass. (They were hard enough in R-Type, but in R-Type Delta they also spin around the screen erratically while you are fighting them...) Moreover, if you die at any point during this gauntlet of "retro" bosses, you are forced back to the first one. I made it pretty close to beating a spinning Bydo warship last night, but I was slain by an "unblockable" pot shot at the last second. It broke me, and I think I am going to take at least a day off before making another run at it.
(I also might - unless someone talks me down - turn the difficulty down a notch so I can finish this up and move on to something else...)

If you are just going to credit feed anyway, you may as well keep the difficulty at the default so you can try your best to beat it as intended.

Thanks. I will keep pushing it at "normal" difficulty. The sad part is that I can complete the first four stages with not just a single credit, but with a single ship. I have to start credit feeding (and feeding...and feeding...) whenever I get to a new section, however, just so I can learn it.
For my knowledge...has anyone on this site completed R-Type Delta? Has anyone done it with a single credit? If so, I commend you because this is one of the most difficult games I have ever played.

Alternately if you can 1cc an easier setting, that's still cool by me.
Credit feeding in an R-Type game is not like credit feeding in most shmups because R-Type uses as checkpoint system. (In other words, your ship does not come zooming back onto the screen if you die.) In that sense, it is like Ninja Gaiden (NES). You can continue as much as you want, but it will not make the game any easier. (Continuing in this game just lets you continue practicing a section until you get it right.)
Additionally, so much of this game - like other games in the R-Type series - is based on memorization. If your ship is not in exactly the right location at exactly the right time, you will die regardless of your reflexes. Death comes swiftly and unexpectedly from all directions in this game, and I have been killed many, many time by enemies appearing on screen in place I could not have predicted except through practice.
Accordingly - and to anyone thinking of attempting this game - I would not recommend attempting to 1CC your first run. The fact that the game requires you to know the details of its levels as well, if not better, than its mechanics means that you have to work your way to a 1CC through multiple runs through the entire game. (I am just trying to get through it once, and in light of the game's difficulty, I will be satisfied with that.)

Yup, I've played lots of R-Type and am well aware of its approach. It can be maddening, for sure!

Have you tried R-Type Delta? I highly recommend it despite my frustration. I have completed all of the other games in the series, and this one blows them all out of the water with regard to difficulty. By this entry, the developers knew they were making a new game in a series renowned for its difficulty and decided to make the game as sadistically difficult as possible.
