Is that a usual saying somewhere in America?

People "round here" say things like:

"Do what now?" when they could just ask "huh?"

"You need to put that up!" which is long and rude for "Please put that away"

I'll never understand "Do what now?" as the phrase never has any meaning to the original question. It's never:

"Please place those books in that box now" followed by "Do what now?"...

It's usually something closer to "That was a great sandwich" followed by "Do what now?".

but seriously why is it that half of the country will know what you mean if you say soda or pop even if you are in a place that uses the other but when you go to these backwards coke saying places they have no idea what either means?

Here everyone just says Coke, or more likely asks for Dr. Pepper by default and that just means whatever cola is on tap. People will specifically say Cherry Coke, Sprite, or whatever if they mean something else. If it is a restaurant that serves Pepsi products you'll get the apologetic "I'm sorry, is Pepsi/Sierra Mist ok?"
