I haven't messed with it much (though I could), but the more ambitious stuff seems to be tied to nVidia, since they've integrated this sort of stuff into their products. At least, the Limelight software only works with nVidia cards and not all Android hardware (there's an Ouya version too though). I think the Splashtop THD (Tegra HD) version at least was better with an nVidia card (AMD can't use fullscreen I think?), but was otherwise built more specifically for game streaming.

In general though, what nVidia built for the shield, and for cloud gaming, is there to utilize. I've read it can work fairly well, but haven't tried it personally.

I've used splashtop quite a bit, and usually it runs great. Sometimes the connection can be choppy, but it's rare, and usually tied to network conditions. But, usually, I can play a game, and it's difficult to see much lag between controls and actions. It's faster than onlive ever was, and from what I've seen online showing off Nvidia Shield and Steam Streaming, it's much faster.

I still have to set it up on the OUYA, and that'll be using a wired connection, so I'll see how that goes. So far I've only used wireless for the receiving device, and, again, even then it worked well.

so I decided to try a powerline ethernet adapter. It's not perfect, but it's much better than the weak-ass wifi signal I was getting in the basement. For instance, on wifi SF4 crashed in the main menu. With this adapter, it did say "slow connection" but I was able to actually play the game and only encountered a few brief moments of lag. So not perfect, but playable for sure.
