New Track - Shy Guy Falls
Retro Track - Royal Raceway - even without the shortcut it is a blast of a map.

are the times there?! I can't find them...

If it is a design decision it is a poor one - especially for online play where it would be really useful to see the times of the people who win (especially if by large margins). I like to have an idea of what to shoot for to get the best route through a course, and only being able to do so in some other mode or with ghost replays or something is stupid.

Also, I just realized this week that I've never played MK 3DS.

RETRO - Tick Tock Clock

Mount Wario is the undoubted highlight of the new tracks, although all of Star Cup and most of the other cups are great too.

Tick Tock Clock is one of the best Mario Kart stages ever made, second only to the fantastic Airship Fortress from the same game (which reappeared in Mario Kart 7). Melody Motorway is a favorite too though.

So I guess my picks are the same as yours

Two things I wish were a bit different in MK8's track list:
1. I wish there were more 3 stage tracks like Mt. Wario. There were quite a few in MK7, and they always feel more interesting to me than going around the same course 3 times.

2. I wish they wouldn't keep picking the crappy boring tracks from Super Circuit for the retro cups. Super Circuit has some really fun and very unique tracks which have never been reused - Sunset Wilds, Cheese Land, Ribbon Road and the Super Circuit version of Rainbow Road are all tracks with unique ideas and fun layouts that have never been reused.

I hooked up my Tekken Tag stick and gave it a run in Mario Kart and it actually is not as a bad as I thought it would be. I came in third in the first race I did it on in 50cc.

Of track enjoyments, I would say that some of my favorites are Shy Guy falls, Mount Wario and the electrodome.

I have two tracks that I am very disappointed in and that is Toad's Turnpike, Yoshi Valley and the Special Cup's Rainbow road. Toad's Turnpike is just too big and broad and didn't really capture the claustrophobia the original N64 one did. With Yoshi Valley, I just think that track stinks to begin with and never needed to be remade. It is just a mess. Special Cup's Rainbow Road is so underwhelming. The track ends very quickly and I do not see the awe and fear that Rainbow road usually induces. It was very forgettable.

Outside of those small trifles, I think these are the best sets of tracks ever made for a Mario Kart ever.

Good point on Toad's Turnpike. I actually gave it praise for the ramps added to the trucks and the speed bursts on the sides of the walls, but you make a good point, it certainly loses that claustrophobia and constant crashing. I thought that was a good thing, but definitely appreciate your view.

Rainbow Road - yeah, not nearly as difficult as N64, but with 12 cars at 150cc, it can still be a hot mess, particularly if you are playing with other skilled players.

I haven't played MK7, really don't dig handheld racers, so for me, so many of the tracks are new / new.

I really enjoy Mount Wario as said, but yeah, Tick Tock Clock is really cool too with the internal mechanisms changing your path each lap. Can't give this one enough praise. I put probably 8 hours into this Fri-Sun with my kids, which is about what I play over the course of an entire month most months, so i've already gotten my monies worth.

I'd have to say out of all the new tracks I can't really come up with any complaints, they all seem so well made. I'll agree with you a bit on Toad's Turnpike but I've enjoyed Yoshi Valley so far with all the different routes you can take.

And you guys aren't really missing too much on MK7 now that this game is out. MK8 takes everything that game did to another level and obviously, it looks much better.

The surround sound is quite good on this game too. I can hear how close and where people are coming up on me and everything. ;D

I can't argue about the moving ramps and the anti-gravity walls, without that it would honestly be the most dull race track in any cart game. I feel like they did what they could to try and spice it up, as the original is not in the spirit of what Mario Kart has become, so I can't really fault them, but man, I really wanted to have some awesome mirror mode oncoming traffic like the 64 did.

Also...anyone else love the fact that in Shy Guy Falls, when you pass the working Shy guys you hear their little grunts and singing to the music? That is such a delight for me to hear!
