I haven't even gone online w/any games yet. Do we have usernames instead of friend codes this go round? (man, I hope so)

If so, I think mine is set up in my daughter's name - is it possible to add multiple users to the same unit?

Yeah everything is now by nintendo network id name, so no more friend codes. YAY!

You can have multiple accounts on the same system, the only difference is that saved game data is based on the account so say you unlocked everything on your daughter's profile, you would have to unlock everything again on your own profile.

That may be a design choice because of the larger focus they are putting on time trials. The ability to share ghost data on the miiverse and with friends, as well as putting up Nintendo Ghost challenges and also adding unlockable miiverse stamps may be the reason why. Maybe it is on the gamepad? I do not know since I do not use it as a control type.

For once I am contemplating a digital purchase (I usually prefer physical copies):
1. I have $30 eshop credit already
2. My kids cant scratch the disc... that seems to be their MO - no matter how hard we try to keep them away. It just happens
3. I can get $5 ($10 according to some other people when I dl the other game - even though N said I couldn't) back via the digital reward program
4. I can have it to play tonight.

So, should I go digital or just wait until I get more cash?

I am not a strict, "Physical-copy-only," proponent so I say go for it. Yes you can get extra credit for purchasing it and you still apply for the free game deal (again digital).

My wife surprised me with a copy on Saturday night. We promptly sat down and played coop 50cc Grandprix for the rest of the night and we had an absolute ball. My only gripes are that Battlemode needs Arenas (which I am hoping they release via DLC - since there was an announcement that DLC is possible), and that in two player you are split vertically instead of horizontally. I get alittle dizzy while playing some of the tracks.

If they give me arena battle modes this will be my new go to Mario Kart. They give me arenas and a LAN option, and they just sold a second Wiiu.

I was very glad they split the screen vertically. With widescreen tvs, splitting horizontally makes for a really truncated view of the track ahead.

To be honest, I wish they put the gamepad as player 1 and TV as player 2. I typically let my sister use the Gamepad since playing it hurts my hands and I use the Wii U Pro Controller. However, the split screen shows up anyway, though the map, times and information like that is on the Gamepad, I just don't use it that often to notice it.

Fair enough. I just wish there was an option for either/or.
