Frown: Nothing makes me more emotional than seeing a woman cry. Must be human nature as I'm usually tough as nails.

Had a party with my regulars last night, and Heather (aka the mouth of the South) was sacked that day from Cracker Barrel (who I already hated). She was a store manager, and they waited until the end of the day, on Friday, to sack her. They also asked her to leave through the back door.

They made sure they got every penny from her.

The way firings often happen pisses me off. Like, fit of rage pissed off. Why? Greed and lack of any decent respect for a human being.

If you need, need to fire someone who has been warned that their job is on the line, take a page from the book of Luke and hear me out.

When the decision is made, it's made. You don't waste your time, you don't waste your employee's time. You prepare a proper exit interview by sending the employee an email saying "We need to meet at X Morning to discuss a serious issue". Hold the exit interview, remind the employee that they have been warned, and explain their unemployment options.

It's not that difficult to show some respect, but these days no one seems to give a flip about their employees. It's "You're fired" and that's that.

These whiny ass baby boomer ceo's are vastly out of touch. There are also plenty of great baby boomer ceo's that are great because they are progressive, and that's key. You have know idea how many ceo's I know that have no MIS software and still use Window's 95. I also know of very few ceo's who LISTEN.

Smile: Beautiful morning and a great start for my weekend.

I know it's like saying "Pizza rolls are neither pizza nor rolls" but there are a LOT of great wealthy baby boomers who know how to run a company (and generally I love baby boomers) but the ones who refuse to *think* drive me bonkers.

They coast. They have their 401k, retirement set, and simply don't give a wag of a tail about their employees as it's all about them. And that means they don't care about their business.

That's what gets my goat. They're part of the reason our economy continues to tank. Their equation is: Make money + prepare for retirement = not give a shoot about what happens next.

And since so many people got super rich in the 80's and 90's, my belief is that they stopped caring right around 2000. And these are the owners of big money. Believe it or not, I study this stuff and take it seriously.

Greed. Boils down to that.

You forgot to include "if I didn't make any money/have any valuable assets I'll just let everyone else take care of my nursing home bill."

I forgot to include a lot of variables, but yeah, you're right. Too right, if that's possible.

My financial philosophy is "don't buy what you can't afford. Have the cash first".

That philosophy isn't that popular. And maybe I'm wrong, as I see people balling with credit cards and loans. And I might be a loon, but I'm a revolver. I simply don't believe in "paying someone back". I pay upfront (hypocritical note, I do have a 30 year fixed on my house, but will pay it off in ten years) for nearly everything (again, house aside).

Book of Mike:

If you're going to pay you're 30 year in 10 years...get a 10 year.

Firing on Fridays while cliche' is done to avoid tying up your HR / Admin departments with follow up the next day. Generally a weekend gives a person time to cool off (if the termination has merit), people are also generally in a better mood on Fridays. This may not pertain to Cracker Barrel who is open on weekends, but it applies in many businesses.

I highly doubt the manager of Cracker Barrel who let your friend go is an out of touch whiny ass baby boomer CEO. It's likely like any other mid-level restaurant manager, doing their best to get by, making an average salary.

Don't rag on people who coast with their 401K. Those people planned ahead, bought less upfront, so they'd be prepared and not be a drain when they retired or could no longer work. (This goes hand in hand with not overspending, not living off credit cards, and buying things you can actually afford ---- yet somehow in the book of Luke they are in conflict with each other).

:D My wife and I took her grandparents to the Detroit Symphony Orchestra last night for the season finale. This was our first time going to an orchestral concert and I was surprised as to how engaging it was. We listened to Mahler's Third Symphony which ran at around 90-120 minutes. Some wonderfully talented people in a wonderful part of Detroit.

:D When we get home at 10 PM, we got to really dig into Mario Kart 8, as she had been gone all day as a chaperone for her brother's field trip to the Henry Ford Museum. We stayed up until roughly 3 AM really digging into the game and enjoying the game immensely.

:( Because she was gone, I limited my play time of the game to just the first 2 cups available, so as not to ruin the experience....I was chomping at the bit!!!

Nice snip. You're lame some days, Luke. Today is one of those days. Put the keyboard away, go enjoy that weather.
