I'm surprised there are two states where Hmong made it to the map. It is such a small and relatively unknown culture. I only know about them from reading the book The Spirit Catches You and You Fall Down. Good book, by the way, if you have any interest in culture clash experiences.

Well Minnesota does have the largest population of Hmong in the country. I'm surprised Somalian isn't actually the language for the state since the Hmong stopped coming in about the mid to late 90's and now we have the largest Somali pop. in the country. Maybe the Hmong have been slower to integrate or have an older population so have taken longer to learn English?

If "Doesn't speak English well" is the key detector, this map is all sorts of goofy. A map of "Americans who speak proper English" would be better...as people round these parts don't take kindly to people who don't speak Americun.BoneSnapDeez wrote:

Largest employer in each state, per single location. Right click, copy image location, paste to address bar to enlarge.
Interesting how USAF appears four times. I guess there just isn't much in those western states.

Not surprised to see UMaine there as the biggest employer in Maine.
My wife and I both worked there when we were students. I was in the kitchens, she was a biology tutor. In fact, they still use a picture of her in their print advertisements and on the website:

There are a lot of universities on that map, and I suspect that hospitals associated with those universities account for the vast majority of their employees.BoneSnapDeez wrote:Not surprised to see UMaine there as the biggest employer in Maine.

UNC Chapel Hill is actually much smaller than some of the other state universities in North Carolina, but it is one of the only ones associated with a hospital. (I am actually surprised that ECU is not a larger employer, and I suspect that the map - despite the fact that it uses the UNC Chapel Hill logo - actually reflects the fact that all of the schools in the UNC system and their associated hospitals are the largest employers in the state.)

NPC for Kansas. I was told I could get a job at pizza hut if I got a haircut when I was 17. That was the manager's rule, not a company rule. Women were allowed to keep their long hair, but if a guy wanted to work there he had to get it cut. The then manager is now the regional manager.
I don't really find any type of discrimination acceptable in the workplace. I can understand if it's for safety, but it falls along the lines of sexism if a girl can have long hair and a guy can't.
