A lot of these old strategy guides are literally falling apart. My Link to the Past, Chrono Trigger, and FFVI guides all look awful. Cheap glue and binding. Then again, who thought people would be reading this stuff 20+ years after the games were released?

Metroid
I believe I've collected all the items in Brinstar.

On to some other area to fight a boss!

When they said we were getting *4* strategy guides that year, I couldn't believe it. Such great information too, pre-Internet.

Of course, Top Secret Passwords was another good one. That one has held up pretty nice for 20+ years.

1. Metroid Prime - GC
2. Resident Evil 2 - PS1
3. Earthbound - SNES
4. Crash Bandicoot - PS1 - Complete
5. X-men Vs. Street Fighter - Saturn - Complete
6. Wonder Boy in Monster World - Genesis
7. Castlevania: Symphony of the Night - PS1
8. Wave Race 64 - N64
9. Ico - PS2
10.Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island - SNES

X-men Vs. Street Fighter is done.

I played and saw endings for all 17 characters. Doing it this way got me to improve with characters I've been terrible as or didn't use at all in other games. For example, it marks the first time I've actually tried to be effective with Zangief, and while he still doesn't suit the way I play, I like the character much more than I used to.

Cammy, for the record, is a beast. And Sabretooth is awful.

I don't often give fighters a lot of attention anymore, so while I'm familiar with the VS. series in general, it was nice to sit down and really focus on this one, particularly since I'd never played it before.

Wonder Boy and Wave Race are still on the table, but I'm thinking I'll begin work on Yoshi's Island as well.

Decided to start Shadow of the Colossus today. I love the art style of the game, but the controls are quite a bit worse than I remember from playing it a few years ago. The horse is especially annoying to control, as are some of the jumps.

If you've already played it anyway, you can join JT on the bottom of the wall. If not, there's still time to replace it with something that's a classic.

Oh man, can we deny classic status because a game sucks?

If so, I nominate Mario 64.

Looking forward to your thoughts on SotC, Retrogamer. Your initial response seems to be fairly common, and one that I shared as well.

I've played it up to the third dungeon and it's just not that good. Really grindy, really awkward and repetitive. I'll give it another go but it's pretty tedious. I won't replace it though as that seems counter to what the challenge is about.

That's usually how it happens.

Mario 64 doesn't suck(at least not from where I'm standing)....sure a few of the controls are annoying from time to time but it's amazing to play...

My point (that I poorly tried to bring across via humor) is that Dsh wasn't telling you not to play the game because it sucks. He was saying it should just not be on your list because it is not a classic. If you thought it was classic enough to include in the first place, then he was not right all of a sudden, just because you don't like the game.

My above comment was in jest, but I do not like Mario 64. I think its a pretty bad game. I would not claim it isn't a classic though, that would just be silly.

So, played around in Ikaruga and R-Type yesterday, just to gauge the games. Ikaruga is not going to happen methinks, but R-Type seems pretty do-able. It was silly of me to put any non-shmup on my list though, I should know better.

Edit: Darspa, that is my point. I think the game is NOT fun to play, but most do, so saying it isn't a classic would be crazy. It is a classic, I just think its not a good game.

Do we really have to use bluetext for anything that is even half serious?
