Dunno if this belongs here, but what the hell, let's hashtag men as evil creatures! Kneejerkism at its finest. It won't be long now before men erect (heh) their own version of feminism.

how is an outpouring of personal stories and frustrations with misogynistic, violent, and/or obsessive men who believed some of what the killer did about women a condemnation of all men as evil creatures?Pulsar_t wrote:

Maybe it's just me, but YesAllWomen implies NoAllMen, even if unconsciously. I may not agree with the likes of Stefan Molyneux on libertarianism (because it's infeasible with today's large populaces), but I find his social commentary to be spot-on in many cases. I wonder if he's done a show on this recent tragedy.dsheinem wrote:how is an outpouring of personal stories and frustrations with misogynistic, violent, and/or obsessive men who believed some of what the killer did about women a condemnation of all men as evil creatures?Pulsar_t wrote:

I'm mostly pro-yes because I find it very hypocritical of English people to be so much anti-EU and for them to be against Scottish independence. My major 2 gripes:Adam wrote: I don't know why people are so hostile at the thought of Scottish independence. Our independence movement is one of the most peaceful and sane independence movements the world has ever seen. All we want is a fair, democratic and peaceful nation. A friend of the world. I am not referring to General Norris, I don't even know what his opinion is yet.

1) They bitch so much about the EU funds going to poorer countries, when all they did was use Scotland's oil to enrich London (don't forget that outside London the country is nowhere near as rich or productive).
2) The bitch about EU immigrants coming all the way to the UK for "benefit tourism", when in reality immigrants pay more in taxes than what they use (not to mention Polish people do their jobs better than them, something which pisses off the English working class so much), but in reality it's British people who retire in Mediterranean countries that are actually taking part in "benefit tourism", because they haven't payed a single cent in, say, Spain's healthy agency, yet they use their hospitals for free when they get sick since they are EU citizens.

Don't worry mate I don't have negative feelings towards British people. I just feel that populists have kidnapped the debate over Europe in the UK and there's simply no going back anymore. And since Scottland is pro-EU, if England wants to go and its smaller brother wants to stay, Scottish independence is the only way to go unfortunately.Of course I'm not against that last thing, (EDIT: the british people getting health coverage in foreign countries part)

How about instead, hashtagging YesToMentalHealth (or just no hashtagging)? Something less antagonistic. Men suffer female abuse as well.
I don't know how you read that into the hashtag, it is a response to the "Not All Men" reply. Here's some background/context via a quick Google News search:Pulsar_t wrote: Maybe it's just me, but YesAllWomen implies NoAllMen, even if unconsciously.
I feel it's a chauvinistic movement, based on the idea that there's a difusse "national identity" that divides people from one another. I have a very low opinion of nationalism, so a brand of nationalism that seeks not just to protect the status quo but to increase the divisions of humanity will have very little praise from me.Adam wrote:What is your opinion about Catalonia's independence movement in Spain? I haven't really studied on what is going on there.
The funny thing is that theoretically the US could have a dozen parties in Congress; we just gamed the system from the beginning to only have two viable parties. There was a period in the middle of the country's life where the Whigs were there to confuse things, but that's just a memory now.ZeroAX wrote:......all this about many parties in parliament must confuse the fuck out of you Americans![]()
