did you not read the part where he was granted rights from the rights-holder? that's the exact thing that keeps something from being a bootleg.

I still think there should be at least one Chrono Jigga track. If that isn't next to impossible.

I would, of course, be super down with this as well

No I didn't see that at all. 'Not licensed but SE can make money off it/shut it down if they want' doesn't necessarily constitute being granted the rights from the rights holder. If SE knows about this and is letting it go forward the OP should just say that, because otherwise it probably get shut down.
Also, pressing CD rips directly onto vinyl without any further mastering or anything will likely sound BAD. And being a hodge-podge of tracks from multiple OST CD's can't help either.

1) No, saying 'not licensed by SE can make money off of it' meant that they would be paid royalties, I should have been clear. They would make money per copy printed. This was my fault.
2) Whether or not it will sound amazing isn't something I can answer without a test pressing, but I don't think it will sound "bad". I actually own a bunch of final fantasy vinyls from Japan, and there isn't a single one of them where I listen to it and go "well this is epic". This is almost more of an art project than it is a audiophile's dream.
You're more than welcome to not buy it, and there's nothing that says this is for sure happening in all honesty (I have a lot on my plate right now and some other projects that are moving ahead a little faster). This is more of a personal dream - right now some people I need to contact are being much harder to contact than I'd like.

How do you plan on doing that? Do you hammer out an agreement beforehand? SE is a huge company and I doubt they let people get away with making unlicensed merchandise, even if they pay them royalties. I'm not an expert on copyright law so I'm legitimately curious about what makes you think this could work.

I get that. I'm just curious about how much work you're planning on putting into this. Are you going to, for example, digitally tinker with all the tracks to normalize the volume levels so going from one source to another isn't going to be too jarring? Or take into account how much the sound goes into the low end of the spectrum so you can get the grooves for the bassier parts/songs spaced further apart? Are you worried about compression?
There are right ways and wrong ways to do projects like this and I wanted to raise these type of questions so people will know what to/not to expect from the final product. Anyone who collects records is probably painfully aware of how much shitty sounding vinyl is sold these days.
I like the idea in theory as these are two of my favorite games and I love the score for Chrono Cross but I don't need any more crummy sounding records. And on that note does anyone want my near mint condition copy of Audrey's The Fierce and The Longing album on vinyl? Anyone?
