Strategy/Puzzle
Sports
Simulation
Fighting

Those are the only genres from what I gather here.

I wonder if the shmups board realizes that they're talking about games that don't exist???

If you want some real fun, tell those guys that shmups are a small part of the "shooter" genre, which also includes FPS.

So according to the above quoted list of genres...

Starcraft 2 and Super Puzzle Fighter are the same genre.
Cadillacs & Dinosaurs and 3D Ballz are the same genre.
Super Mario Bros. and Mushihimesama Futari are the same genre.
Guild Wars 2 and Myst are the same genre.
Madden 2012 and Rad Racer are the same genre.

You've got that backwards. Shooters came first, FPS came along later and stole the genre title, so the shmups title came about. So FPS are part of the shmups genre.

No no no, they're all still shooters. It's just some shooters are shmups, and some are first person shooters, and light gun shooters are older than all of them. The whole genre should be called ROLko, or Ray-Of-Light knock offs.
