Pin 14 came right off!!!!!!

I finally received my mod chip in the mail today and started to hook it up. The first time it worked great although I had to connect to pin 14 instead of the A+B method, a few hours later I turned it on and it wasn't working correctly. It had pulled itself off of pin 14 so i went to re soldier it on and pin 14 in one piece come right off. Needless to say my saturn is no longer capable of telling what the format of any disk is. In your opinion what should I do now? Original game cd's no longer work! I have no way of knowing at this point if the mod chip itself was a bad one, but I know that the saturn needs a new cd-rom. Is it possible to get a cd-rom without having to purchase another saturn? If I buy another saturn that is a different model can I use the cd-rom out of that? WHat can I do to prevent this from happening again? Like I said it had worked at first so I can't tell if the cd-rom disconnected from the wire and then the pin fell out, or if the pin was shot? I'm totally having a bad day and if anybody could tell me what the least expensive way I can go about not only getting a working saturn again, and having it modded.

Sorry to hear about your Saturn trouble. I've had days like that where I wish I just stayed in bed. Best thing to do is see if you can find the trace on the bottom of the board where it came off of and see if you can reattatch the pin with a short piece of wire or directly to the board if possible. you may have to scrape off some of the green coating to expose a pice of metal to solder too. Don't scrape too much though or you will go right through the thin layer of metal. Hopefully a small piece of metal is sticking out from the chip side to attatch too. It could have been a weak part or possibly too much heat was applied which may have weakened the part. In either case it still may be salvageable. If worst comes to worst try to find a broken Saturn on Ebay on the cheap and swap out the board since I'm assuming your laser is still good.

Picked up another Saturn for $30, tried chip out again still comes up as audio cd's. Did not use solder on new system too scared, found someone to install it for me, but worried it may have been the chip. It did work for about an hour then stopped.

I havent been able to contact Racketboy, and I hope he doesn't think I'm mad at him or anything, I just want a modded Saturn. After killing one Cd-Rom board I dont want to take any chances.

IF the chip needs to be replaced before I have this guy install it, will Racketboy send me another (I'll ship this one to him I'm in the shipping business so shipping costs don't worry me too much).

I just need some help getting this all to work, it's been a long couple of days.

i tried the A+B method to the chip, and still had the same problems. After putting the Saturn back together I noticed that the red ground wire was becoming loose, so I will put both wires in with the package and send it back to you as soon as I get postage for it.

I would like to thank Racketboy for the awesome service and help he has given me in the past few days, the super fast mailing of the chip to begin with, and being very understanding with the complications that I have had.

I have been working on a guide for other Saturn fans out there on the easiest and accurate methods on creating Saturn CD's (I would call them "rings" myself), so after the chip is replaced and installed I can hand off the finished guide to you. I don't want to post it up if I'm burning them wrong, but when the chip was working all of the burns I made worked flawlessly. I'm thinking a downloadable .pdf would be helpfull, and i would also send a word file with pics so racketboy can have that as a page on the site. Tell me what you think. Hope I'm not imposing.

Also I have been making a generic template for the Cd's that has the original Saturn logo burning, then it would be possible to paste the original title logo for a game, or simple text etc.. next to it, anyone interested?

What I am interested in doing now is finding a way to connect everything without using solder. I am interested to see how much luck people have had using things like tape or clips 'cause I'm pretty sure the A+B method won't work with my Saturn.

As for the solderless method, a few people have pulled it off with Electrical tape, but I don't recommend it. I don't know if they've used electrical tape on pin 14 though...
