Not as cheap as I should be.

I'm pretty damn cheap.
One rule I have: I never use a credit card to buy a video game or anything "fun." If I don't have the cash on hand it can wait.

I get the sentimental part of it. But I also have precious memories of my past tied to things that aren't game related. My childhood and teenage years wouldn't have been any different without a certain game. I'd pay to have my old friends back, the old times back. No game or movie or song can replace that, no matter the sentimental value.
They have escaped into the mansion where they thought it was safe, yet.

For retro I'd say I'd prob wouldn't spend more than $10. There's this place I go to about twice a year that that I'll spend a little more at. But I go to my local pawns each week and you wouldn't believe some games I've got for $2-$4.
New, there's a lot of new games I can wait to go down to the $20-$30 mark. But if a new GTA or Uncharted series game comes out I'm a first day buyer. Example MK8 is getting ready to come out and newegg had a promo for it so I got it for $50. I try to look for the best deals.

I'm with the OP. Unless it is a new game, like Mario Kart 8, I don't want to be spending more than £5-10 on it. As a Nintendo fan, this does make a lot of the first party titles harder to obtain, but it's good to hold a budget so overspending doesn't occur. There's no way I'm paying £60+ for Fire Emblem on the Gamecube, I'd rather pick up the similar version on Wii for half the price.

I spend stupid amounts of money on stupid things I shouldn't spend money on. Life is short.
But, I don't really spend much on gaming.

The games I am interested in buying aren't in the $5-10 category...

Re: How cheap are you?
I'm not cheap. If I'm not willing to spend at least $20/$30 on a game, then it must not be worth owning in the first place. Of course, I try to get stuff as cheaply as possible, but I'm generally willing to pay what I estimate a game's entertainment value will be to me.
Hell, a trip to the movies for me and my gf will often cost me $30, especially if we get drinks/popcorn. Add dinner to that and we're looking at $50 or $60 + tip. Some of the responses in this thread surprise me, and I;m just a poor community college student.

Re: How cheap are you?
I try and stay under $20 a game, but I'm certainly willing to go over that if it's a new game I really want to support, or a harder to find old game that I know I won't find much cheaper than the asking price. I would love to be able to only spend $5 a game, but that would be impossible around here haha (even if I did have a car...)
