There are plenty of reasons to buy digitally without a massive sale. I don't think they expect a lot of people will rebuy the games to have on both platforms (though it happens more than you might think), but there's no incentive for them to give you a free copy of the game.isiolia wrote:Maybe not, but it'd be a reason to buy digitally on PSN or XBL without there being a massive sale. I think looking at it as a "free copy" is considering it more from the standpoint of physical media. It'd be a single license, bound to a single account, accessible on multiple platforms.MrPopo wrote: There are plenty of reasons to buy digitally without a massive sale. With PSN as the example, if I knew that buying a game there would mean I can play it on PS3, PS4 when I get one, and Playstation Now down the line, then that's a compelling reason to choose PSN over a physical copy for PS3 or 360, or XBL, or possibly even PC.
Over time, that'd mean I have a library of content on Sony's platform that'd encourage brand loyalty. Not a shelf of discs I could trade for an Xbox.
Isn't it similar to what their incentive for the Instant Game Library would presumably be? The same kind of reasons that you have to drag most PC gamers kicking and screaming from Steam to Origin? (for the record: I am one of those PC gamers)
In the long term, as things go digital, it's not a console war, it's a service war. The consoles are just, for now, the way to access that content.
Re: Random Gaming Thoughts
I've really realized that I can't play games without sound...looks like I'll be needing to just finally get a new gba and mod it with a after burn and try to find the charger for the rechargeable battery I still have from those days. Guess i've just become a sound addict for some of these games even if it's only gbc sound right now I'm really wanting to hear as of right now(since I'm playing crystalis)...

Re: Random Gaming Thoughts
I bought a new copy of Mischief Makers for N64 to replace my dodgy old copy which kept freezing up.
Lo and behold, it does the same thing. I have a friend who owns the game and has the same issues too.
I thought that was a bit weird, so I did some research, and it turns out it's probably the N64 Expansion Pak causing problems. So now I need to figure out what I did with the Jumper Pak for my N64, which hasn't been inside the console in about 13 years or so.
Replacement Jumper Paks are surprisingly pricy...

It's probably cheaper to buy an N64 that was never upgraded with the expansion pak.alienjesus wrote:Replacement Jumper Paks are surprisingly pricy...

Re: Random Gaming Thoughts
Maybe it's only in PAL copies. It seems odd to happen to all 3 versions of the game I'v e run into. Both of us have Expansion Paks in our consoles.AppleQueso wrote:Weird, mine's always had an Expansion Pak and I never had issues...alienjesus wrote:I bought a new copy of Mischief Makers for N64 to replace my dodgy old copy which kept freezing up.

It's worth a try at least. No amount of cleaning has helped.

I'd offer to just mail you a jumper pack that I have lying around but the shipping costs from the US would probably be ridiculous.

It's OK, I managed to find mine (or rather accurately describe where it was enough for someone else to find it - they're gonna post it to me).AppleQueso wrote:

I've heard that Space Station Silicon Valley has issues with the Expansion Pak, so it's not unprecedented. I hope it is the cause, because it's just so odd to me that only this one game has ever had issues.
EDIT: This video has the issue in the exact same spot as I do on one of my copies (and did on the other, although it managed to hold for long enough once for me to pass it). Either it's a reasonably common issue, or this guy sold me his copy!
