What was the last movie you've seen?

Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

I think that's okay from non-Godzilla people.

Fans of the series should know that Godzilla movies have little Godzilla (most of the time).

Sporting my "Stephen King Rules" T-shirt and am excited to introduce MONSTER SQUAD to a few friends tonight. This day rules.

:D

And specially that final move made me want to raise my fist in the air and yell "fuck yeah"

(I still did a "wohohoho" sound though :D)

Because it was trying to be a Jurassic Park rip-off instead of a godzilla movie
Yup. Replace Zilla with some other random creature and it would have been an okay movie. It just upset a lot of Godzilla fans because that was NOT Godzilla.
Maybe this was the problem. I do not know anything about Godzilla except its Japanese, its a dinosaur like monster, and it attacks cities. I got exactly that in the '98 version, it was entertaining. I would categorize it with Independence Day, Deep Impact, and other world destruction movies from that that era quality wise.

If you want a bad monster movie War of the Worlds is a bad monster movie **Spoilers** Supreme aliens that they continue to run away from because they can't be killed, and in the end they figure out you kill them with water.. was that it?

Which movie would you say is the best Godzilla movie?

That is really hard to answer. You have to consider that even the Godzilla fandom is broken up in groups due to the Godzilla films being broken up into different eras:

Showa - 50's - 70's movies that may have a bit of a serious side to them, but are mostly campy, cheesy and have that "guy in a suit charm" to them. This era housed some of the best and absolute worst movies in the Godzilla franchise. Godzilla was humanized in some of these movies and turned into a super hero.

Heisei - Late 80's - Early 90's movies that seem to get a lot of hate from Showa fans. However, these are personally my favorite films. Godzilla is an animal and acts as such. The story, although broken in a lot of places, is continuous throughout this era. Showa had no story continuity.

Millennium - Toho films after 1999 brought back that Showa feel. Only a couple of the movies are related and most of them are just all out action with the exception to Godzilla 2000. Be aware that these movies are extremely cheesy. They wanted to get that feeling back from the Showa films.

;tldr
You can't really compare Godzilla movies across different eras without taking account that they have different goals. That said:

My Best Godzilla Films:

Best Showa Film: Gojira - Not King of the monsters. Very serious feel with charming 1950's effects. This is the original Godzilla and nothing can beat it in my heart.

Best fun Showa Film: Godzilla vs Gigan - A lot of people don't seem to like this one, but it has all my favorite Kaiju fighting it out in an amusement park.

My Most Watched Showa Film: Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla - This is a close runner up to Gojira. It has a good balance of seriousness and silliness. The fight is pretty freaking awesome too. I can't say no to watching this movie.

Best Heisei Film: Godzilla vs. Biolante - From a technical standpoint, this Godzilla film has everything you need in it. Lots of human interaction, some military stuff, two monster fights, a bit of cheesy telepathic stuff and Godzilla being the good "anti-hero" he should be. Don't expect loads of action though, because this is very close to the layout to Godzilla 2014.

You want all out action with tons of silly? Try these two Millennium movies:
Godzilla, Mothra and King Ghidorah: Giant Monsters All-Out Attack
or
Godzilla: Final Wars (This one even has the humans fighting it out)

As a fan of TLJ's directorial debut (The Three Burials of Melquiades), I'm looking forward to this.

I guess that's the one I will be seeing :D. I once started to watch all the godzilla films, but the 2-3 after the first one were pretty dull and I gave up :/.

What's the best films with mecha godzilla in them?

James Rolfe did a decent series on the all the Godzilla movies. They're very brief reviews, nothing in depth but give a reasonable layout of the series and how it evolved.

yes I've seen it and it was his best work imo, but the problem is he likes godzilla so much I don't trust him on advice on which ones stand out
