What do you use to restore the finish on your old consoles?

The problem with using those clean erasers is that, yeah, they're sandpaper. It's just a microscopic sand sponge, or whatever, with some water activated cleaning chemicals. Great for grinding stuff off, but definitely not something for "finish".

To get rid of yellowing, I would imagine it'd remove features and drastically alter the texture in addition to removing the yellowed plastic. Honestly, I think using retrobrite formula would be a better option in that case. No physical damage!

I can only speak from experience about using magiceraser on a console. It took off the crap I wanted off and left the rest. It is NOT sandpaper, it is squishy; kind of like a sponge...

As for a NEW finish; turtle wax?

Try this guys. Grab wd40 especially on a black console. Just spray a little on a paper towel and wipe that badboy down. I did that for my genesis and my model 1 was looking like a freaking beast.

Ugh no. WD-40 will dissolve certain paints and damage certain plastics. It will also make dust stick even worse into crevasses. I went nuts on a bunch of toys as a little kid thinking I'd make them all roll faster and messed several of them up. WD-40 even a very good lubricant compared to other things. It is really best for Water Displacement and freeing up nuts and bolts that have rusted or corroded in place.

They are abrasive, and will wear textured surfaces smooth if you aren't careful.
