I don't feel like it's the DC port. I feel like MVC is genuinely a more difficult game than its sequels.dsheinem wrote:Man I am not doing well in MvC at all. I am aiming for a 1cc, but don't think I've made it past a 4th round or so. What's odd is that I have no problems ringing up a 1cc on either of the sequels.
Is the DC port especially tough or something (I left everything on the default settings)? Maybe I'll try the version on PS3...

Mom? Is that you?noiseredux wrote:Jordy.
Sadly, it does not exist anymore. It was folded back into AVClub last year.noiseredux wrote:And, thanks for reminding me Gameological exists. I always seem to forget. Need to add them to my list of frequents (RockPaperShotgun, PCGamer, Kotaku, Joystiq, HG101, VideoGameCritic, etc).
The first two games are certainly dated, but they are well designed. I remember them fondly, and I think they are worth a shot if you enjoy the series. (Tomb Raider III is awful, however, and as big a fan of the series as I was in the '90s, I could not will my way through that game.)noiseredux wrote:That said, I bought the Tomb Raider bundle last year that was 11 games, so I've got it. After playing TR'13 though, I was really intent on playing thru Crystal Dynamics' TR games first.
I really, really need to play that. I have been holding out for a copy of the "definitive edition" at a good price, but I may just have to suck it up and pay retail price for it.noiseredux wrote:I will say this though - TR'13 was indeed perfect (to me). I've got fingers crossed for another installment like that one.
I hit a wall at the "beehives". (I only died once until that point, but that section of the second level wiped my credits.noiseredux wrote:Anddd... I told you Delta was an asshole. It was on my Summer Games 2011 list. Here's what I had to say about it as the Summer came to an end:
I was warned not to include R-Type Delta on my list for the simple reason that I just would not be able to beat it. I laughed. Surely if I put some time into it and memorized levels and enemy patterns, I certainly could beat it! I had no problem making it through the first level without losing a ship. But level two. Woah. I lost them all. Fast. And as it turns out, Delta really is one big jerk of a game. Don't get me wrong, sometimes it's fun to take abuse. But there was no way I was going to beat this one.

It's not just you, a problem with me playing the original MvC in the arcade and on my DC has always been the second form of Onslaught. Unless you're playing as Mega Man or a a character that can actually attack from a distance (or get lucky enough to get an assist character that can do the same thing), it's always "Onslaught Wins". UGH.dsheinem wrote:Man I am not doing well in MvC at all. I am aiming for a 1cc, but don't think I've made it past a 4th round or so. MvC2? No problem to 1cc that constantly.

Not particularly to my knowledge. Who have you been using for your team?dsheinem wrote:Man I am not doing well in MvC at all. I am aiming for a 1cc, but don't think I've made it past a 4th round or so. What's odd is that I have no problems ringing up a 1cc on either of the sequels.

Mixing it up a bit with mostly Wolverine, Ryu, Spider-Man, Hulk, War Machine, Chun-Li and Gambit. Gotten the furthest (Round 5) with Spider-Man and Wolverine.Ack wrote:Not particularly to my knowledge. Who have you been using for your team?dsheinem wrote:Man I am not doing well in MvC at all. Out of curiosity, how many rounds are there?
Re: Summer Games Challenge 2014
Around 8 or so, if I recall correctly.
Sounds like you're doing better with the speed characters, though you definitely should spend some time learning which ones have hyper combos that compliment the other characters. For instance, War Machine's Proton Cannon hyper compliments Ryu's, since his beam cannon has a slightly longer charge time to get going while Ryu's Shinku Hadouken and Evil Ryu's Messatsu Gou-Hadou are faster coming out of the pipe(Morrigan's Soul Eraser also works, though I believe it comes out slightly slower than the Shinku Hadouken due to the animation for the bats. Same for Mega Man's Hyper Megaman).
One of the nastier hyper combos is dual Gambits both using Royal Flush(for about 75 hits, roughly 3/4 of a health bar), though if you prefer calling out your partner, a Gambit/Ryu team can initiate a Royal Flush into a Shinkuu Tatsumaki Senpuu Kyaku into a Royal Flush into a Shinkuu Tatsumaki Senpuu Kyaku (into another Royal Flush in practice mode, though your opponent will be dead before you get there in the actual game). And there is always Zangief's Double Final Atomic Buster, though I've never been a big Zangief fan.

For better or for worse, I only have a PS3. Thanks for the offer, though!Stark wrote:I've got a copy for 360 in my BST if you're interested, sure I can make ya a deal friend.prfsnl_gmr wrote:I really, really need to play that. Re: Summer Games Challenge 2014
I thought that might be the case. I don't really see a reason to have a 360 at this point, unless you haven't played Halo 4 or Reach or Gears of War. All of the early, super exciting, XBLA stuff has mostly been ported to computer and PS3.prfsnl_gmr wrote:For better or for worse, I only have a PS3. Thanks for the offer, though!
