The main problem with KOF XII is that not a huge number of PC users are playing and few folks have the ports forwarded, meaning the Quick Match can have ugly results. But if you know others with the game and are willing to play regularly with them, you can have a good experience, because you and your friends will all know to have your ports properly forwarded and get on at the same time and thus be likely to be connected to each other. And I think you can set up deliberate matches, anyway. I'll explore that further later in the week when I have more time.

The short version is, the following ports must be opened in the firewall on your router, and the traffic directed to the IP address of your gaming machine (port forwarding). This is much easier if your gaming machine has a DHCP reservation / static internal IP address.

27000 to 27030 UDP
27014 to 27050 TCP
4379 to 4380 UDP
3478 to 3478 UDP
