How cheap are you?

To me, price is entirely dependent on how much I want to play the game, if there are other means to get a nearly identical gaming experience, and if the game in question will hold value (for higher priced items, that is).

If a new game comes out and I want to play it, $60 is worth it to me. Granted, I very rarely want to play a new game, so this only happens once a year or so.

Still, I am pretty cheap overall, since there is almost always a way for me to get a nearly identical experience with older games (and those tend to be the pricey ones). When I want something bad, though, I'll spend silly money on it.

I don't think I could spend over $1000 on a single game though (Unless some fool unloads a Futari Red for some ridiculously low price. I'd drop money on that in a heartbeat).

people who buy games for under about $45-$50 just aren't getting very good games and they are missing out on what the hobby is all about. I can't imagine a $5 game being any good. All the best games are those that sell for $100+ because there's more fun in playing elite pricey titles than there is in some $5 toss off NES game that everyone can play.

My "casual" price for a game is around $5 - $10. Meaning, if I'm not in the market for a game purchase but stumble across something I would like to have then I usually max out around that price. But, if I'm actually wanting to buy a new game to play because I'm bored with what I currently have (but even after selling a ton of my stuff I have hundreds of games, so I don't know why this ever occurs), then $20 is usually my limit.

I might buy three new games a year at full price. But I will support GoG, Humble, and Steam sales with a vengeance. Non pc gaming, I have a hard time going over $15 for a USA released used game, though I will splurge for a game or item occasionally.

Arcade games are a bit different though, as several have said.

I rarely buy games these days. Currently going through a whole lot of games i played for hours back in the day and for whatever reason did not finish them. So far it's been a blast

Probably $8-10 for an older game aside from the obvious rarities. Any more than that and I always justify not buying with "That's okay I already have too many games to play." I won't even look at a Genesis game for more than a few dollars unless it's CIB, especially at a store of some kind where there's a mark up involved. There are some NES staples I would love to have that my local store has, but I'm not paying $30 for Contra hehehe no.
