How cheap are you?

First and maybe most importantly, I don't play new games. No freakin way I'm going to pay hundreds of dollars for an entertainment system, when I have other hobbies.

So when I do buy games for a system I do have, I generally stay under $5. Anyone spend even less? Anyone stay under $10?

I don't care if it's Final Fantasy 7, it's still an old game. $5, take it or leave it.

I don't like to spend more than $20 to $30 a game. For this reason much of my modern gaming sits on PC where prices like that are pretty attainable even for new releases.

So I guess I'm not super cheap. Yet, I hate it when I end up with a game that's awful so I tend to do a great amount of research before purchasing anything. I don't tend to impulse buy games anymore.

I keep it as cheap as possible. I bought 822 games last year at an average price of $3.73. I also really have a hard time spending more than $10 on any game...

I am used to finding retro stuff in lots, so a lot of my games come cheap. Buy I also spend for newer games, consoles, collector editions, and choice harder to find games in nice condition.

I don't have a strict "$5 or less" rule. I mean, if someone offered Flintstones: Surprise at Dinosaur Peak for $50, I'd be a complete idiot to insist on $5 and lose the deal.

As a general guideline, if you're able to buy something you want for 60% of the average selling price on ebay or less, that's a deal.

I'm frugal and mindful, but I don't mind when others spend money on me. Value is all a part of perception, and I have yet to found a cheap scotch I like, but I enjoy scotch, so there you go.

As far as video games go...I'm already a decade behind, which works for my wallet. Will I buy Watch Dogs at launch? Nope, but I sure as shit want it asap. I have at least 40 360 games that aren't even opened, so I can't justify paying $70 for a new game.

This changes with age. BIG time.

If 5th grade Luke got fifty bucks from Grandma, he's off to buy Rampage for the nes. These days when I get fifty bucks as a gift, it goes to boring stuff like varnish for my deck, a Sam's club purchase of ass wipe, and clothes.

Priorities. Gotta have 'em.

It's funny that people now have terms for people who buy stuff and put it on a shelf, then make a video telling the world about what they bought. When I was a kid, I had all kinds of cool stuff that I'm sure people would love to have now, but I never gave a thought about it being something I do (the act of going to the store and buying it.)

It's like if you said this game is really rare man, you got to have it. I'd be like I don't care about the game, even it's free, it's just a game I would never play. I'm too damn lazy to go through all the hoops and processes and trips to the post office to sell it, either.

So yeah, you got something I'm interested in, $5.

I'm also the type of guy, that if you asked what's the best game ever made?? Without any thought or deep in depth critical analysis, I would reply confidently: "I dunno...'Golf' for the NES."

For console stuff, I consider anything over $40 expensive(ish) and I'll think twice about it. I pretty well own all the console games I want already anyway, or at least modded systems and burned copies.

I've always lived a generation behind on console games to save money though. I didn't get a PS2 until probably 7 years ago, and an xbox 360 a couple years back. The only console I bought at launch was the Dreamcast, and the only new game I've paid full retail for in many years was South Park Stick of Truth (and I don't regret either of those decisions).

For arcade stuff, generally anything under $60 is cheap, and I won't think twice about a $50 PCB if it's a fun game. Over $100-$150 it better be something I really want.
