Re: H.R. Giger has died
Sad news indeed. Is there an artist who has had more of an impact on this hobby? I doubt it.
What surprised me is how young he must have been when he did the work for Alien.

The ALIEN collector's edition (it's quite possible there are more than one) has an interview with Ridley Scott on his meeting with Giger, and they are amazing. Giger was amazing, but way off his rocker.

I tweeted this, but here's a good gallery of work that extends beyond Alien. He was a giant: http://art.vniz.net/en/giger/
Re: H.R. Giger has died
I was getting ready for work so my previous post was rushed.
In short, Mr. Scott visited Giger to see his drafts of "The Alien". Giger introduced himself by pulling out a ball of foil, opening it, and asking Ridley, "This is hash. Would you like to try it?". Scott passed on the offer, but was both shocked and amused.
After all, it was an interview and the first thing Giger did was go gonzo. But like I said, work speaks for itself, and if it makes money you go with it.
Brilliant artist Giger was. Even more brilliant at business. The guy knew how to sell pictures of guns loaded with grotesque babies. What I wouldn't give to have picked his brain.

Damn... this is really sad. Necronom V is possibly my favorite piece of art ever created (I'll never be able to afford it). This just hit me right in the feels...

I just saw this too. Man that sucks. I just finally nabbed the 3rd of the big book trilogy a few months ago too, Biomechanics.
I still struggle to correct years of saying it wrong, but it sounds like eager, not like a geiger counter.
*edit for better pronunciation comparison*

Re: H.R. Giger has died
Rest in Peace H.R. Geiger. This man's macabre art was as far from classical beauty as an artist can get, yet he made a career for himself and became famous within his own lifetime.
