Re: Summer Games Challenge 2014
I would never be able to find the post, as it was quite some time ago. Maybe it was just favorite Cave game. You would know better than I, of course.
Was I at least correct in recalling that shmups are one of your favorite genres?

So, now I will try to pull you out of the comfort zone, as you do for others here, and suggest putting a shmup 1cc as a challenge on your list. A selfish request, admittedly, but something I would love to see.
It is a Summer Games "Challenge", after all.

Aliens Versus Predator
Batman Arkham Asylum
Dragon's Lair
Fallout
Halo
Phantasy Star IV
Sonic 3 And Knuckles
Tomb Raider Anniversary
Vampire: The Masquerade
Wonder Boy In Monster World
...almost done. Keep Halo or swap in Metal Slug 3 or Another World? I'm not so sure about Halo given that I've played an hour or two in the past (unlike every other game here) and as I've got FPS represented w/ AvP.

Have you played the other Metal Slug games much? If not, I know I'd enjoy seeing what you think of em. The games have a nice, natural progression from survival to score play, and are just damn fun.
Halo isn't a very long game, so if you've already gone 2 hours in, I'd say swap it for something.

I've played a bit of the first Metal Slug. Credit-fed thru a few levels. That's all I've played of the main series, and then the GBA and NGPC games.dunpeal2064 wrote:Have you played the other Metal Slug games much? If not, I know I'd enjoy seeing what you think of em. Re: Summer Games Challenge 2014
What I like about the games (Other than their epic shooting funtimes) is that playing "for score" just makes sense. The goal is to nab all the prisoners, which is very obvious. Dying makes you lose them, also very obvious. So, naturally, as you play, you mold your route to be able to no-miss a stage. Then, you may realize you are missing a prisoner, so you start exploring the stage, and find secrets, the extra prisoners, etc.
I don't know... it feels like you are eventually superplaying the game, but there is never a need for a guide or replay. The game is just designed to lead you there.
There are a ton of secrets in the games too, which I quite enjoy.

I'm still wondering if wolverine for nes counts. That is one game I have that bugs me even more than smb1(even if I'm have trouble trying to beat smb1 deluxe)

As a general place to get helps for picking games, go to RB's "Games that defined" series (not "Hidden Gems"). Some of the games there I would quibble with, but the vast majority of them are good choices for a challenge such as this. Alternately, revisit the history of Together Retro which, again, is mostly filled with games that are agreed upon classics.

If you are wanting to add an X-men game in particular to your list, maybe check out the original arcade game? Or, if you have room for a fighter on your list, I think X-Men vs SF/MvC would still be a nice fit.
