Yeah, I'm having a LOT of trouble putting up a score and it it weirding me out. I played the PSX version of this game until the disc burst into flames back in the day. I could almost always clear the game - now I'm having trouble making it to M. Bison.
Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?

I tell you, on all my fighters I play, the 1st thing I do is turn off the timer, since I don't want to be constrained by it. But, seeing as we're playing for score, you have to play with the default settings.

I never thought about it much before, but this game def. has some kind of rank system based on score and round progression. So I think turning the timer off, even without touching the difficulty itself has a profound effect on how the AI behaves. Just my 2¢.

Yes. Exactly - and something I didn't know existed in fighters. Obviously the AI gets tougher and better at countering / defense as you advance, but you're right. If you have a big round or start out hot, then you'll get Charlie in round 4 and he'll just split your head.

If I play decent, nothing special, just get wins, about 90K per fight, I cruise to round 8 or so. If I start out w/2 big wins and 400K, I get killed next round.

It wouldn't surprise me if this game did use rank to affect challenge. It does make sense as the next big development to try and make fighting game challenge levels more reactive.

Damn it! I made it all the way to the 8th match with just shy of 900K using Sakura and Adon decided that I didn't need to go any further. Thinking about tossing the towel in on this one. I know I can beat this game but I don't seem to be able to 1cc it.

I'll say again - this is the most solo fun i've ever had with a fighter. I don't know if it's the game, or just the competition, but it's been a blast.

That said - I think i'm maxed. I pretty consistently get owned after round 7 or 8 each time and my score is staying in the 600-900K range. I've put in probably 7-8 hours the past 2 wees (which is a lot for me) and my boys have played probably 2-3 hours as well.

it's the competition. It's a serious 9/10 game. For sure. But if we were playing Garou or 3rd Strike like this you'd have even more fun.
