Tis the Season... No Heat

Post by SpaceBooger »

Go figure... three days before Christmas and my heat goes out. What great timing... we are broke because we spent all our money on gifts/dinners/etc for the holiday and now my heater wont stay on for more than a minute at a time leaving my house at 54 degrees.
Normally I would just suffer through it, but with a 4month-old baby in the house it needs to be fixed right away... damn... tis the season...

Even when I was a child I wasn't a huge fan of the "gift giving" of the holiday season.

Don't get me wrong, I always enjoyed reading christmas stories with my mum, the christmas music playing, setting up the tree, playing in the snow (I didn't always live in Florida), baking cookies and pies, all that fun merriment.

But I was that odd child on x-mas morning more excited about the new socks and underoos! I mean come on, christmas was the one time a year we got new ones, and last seasons were near the end of the line!!!!

Of course there were gifts here and there I really looked forward too, but for the most part, a pile of toys meant less to me then dinner being on the table.

So call me a grinch, my siblings do, I don't buy gifts on Christmas. I'll come by and join in on the glee, but don't get me shit and I'm definitely not getting you shit!

Unless of course you wanna get me some new boxers... these are kinda chafing.

MERRY GREEDFEST TO ALL!

anyways, at SpaceBooger - sorry to hear that. Hopefully x-mas morning comes with a magic heat fairy. And not the "oh my God the tree is on fire" kind. Aw snap, you just reminded me of second grade... my house burned down that xmas season.

The problem with that advice is that the "quit it" portion of the process becomes much more complicated after the "hit it" maneuver has been completed. Much easier to "quit it" before all else.

Sorry to hear. I have an oil-burning furnace that basically needs annual maintenance or it ends up breaking and being costly to fix. What problem do you have? Is it an expensive fix?

Wood stoves are relatively inefficient. One good way is to buy a few of those electric sealed oil radiators. They're pretty efficient, though they won't heat the house the way a furnace will.

take a loan
this might sound stupid, but works
use coal to generate heat in a room

any how, why xmas is about gift giving, i mean isnt it a religious holiday? Do you HAVE to give gift or its something cultural.

Plus, when you buy lots of gifts, you get lots too , so it balances out

I would avoid burning anything -- you don't want to burn the house down and make matters worse....
Did the heater just die? Did you get an estimate for repairs?

What kind of heat do you have oil or gas forced hot water, steam or forced hot air? Maybe I can help, I work for a natural gas utility. I inspect and fix heating units daily and maybe I can talk you though a temporary solution to get you through the holidays. Sounds like the boiler or furnace is short cycling. You might be able to do a few thing to get your heat going for now depending on your system. Let me know specfics so I can help you better.
