Starting a new NES collection. Should I buy an Analogue Nt?
Starting a new NES collection. Should I buy an Analogue Nt?
Sadly the NES from my childhood didn't survive so I'm looking at my options. Authentic hardware is important to me, so I'm not looking at anything that emulates. I think the Analogue Nt looks pretty great, but it's super expensive. $500 wouldn't break the bank, but I honestly don't think have the patience to refurbish and mod one myself. What do you guys think would be some good options for me?

Joke thread?
If not, then what exactly are you looking to do with the NES? Run it to what kind of TV? Play Famicom games? Do you need upscaling or scanlines? Need a bit more detail. Cleaning up and getting an NES to work isn't that hard, but it all depends on what your plans are.

Then buy an NES. You can find nice refurbished ones for $50 or less.yayitsdan wrote:Authentic hardware is important to me, so I'm not looking at anything that emulates.

there are also some toploaders out there.
They'll cost a little bit more, but you wont have to worry about jiggling the cart inside the nes. Unless you want the full retro look of the classic nes.
All that extra money left over from not spending $500 bucks will get you lots of games.
There are still lots of games out there for cheap, if you dont care about owning them complete.
Dont forget the CRT tv. Time to play some duck hunt!

I think most of the opinions here will be if you want authentic hardware, buy authentic hardware.
But if money is no option then don't let me stop you, go nuts.

Do you still have the non-working unit? If I were you I'd at least do a case swap with a referb.yayitsdan wrote:Sadly the NES from my childhood didn't survive so I'm looking at my options.
I'd kill to have my original NES from my childhood, working or not

Re: Starting a new NES collection. Should I buy an Analogue
You only have to jiggle the cart if the pins are out of shape...though most problems also relate to the fact if the pins are oxidized and need to be cleaned. I know that now after getting my pins brought back into shape and doing some alcohol on the carts. Works like a charm even if I haven't gave it as much love as i should've but then again I just haven't got enough games to play yet(and have played my ps2 more). Might be time to show it some love next week. But seriously top loaders with the scanlines(unless you mod it for component) that would bug me to no end...I'm just fine with my original and would recommend it as long as your willing to do the work to make it work properly...flojocabron wrote:there are also some toploaders out there.

Honestly, good AV mods aren't that hard to do with the top loader. It's quite a premium though, you'd have to decide if that sort of cash and effort was worth it. I love mine for what it's worth.
At the very least, nab one of those dogbone controllers. They might not look it, but they're awesome.

Still I enjoy my original, and the original controller(so sue me but I like the authenticity and it really doesn't bother my hands playing it). I only wish I could mod it to be wireless would be great to not have to worry about the cords with how my room is...

Nope it's not a joke. I realize most of the reactions towards the Analogue Nt are negative, but unless I'm missing something, that's mostly because of the price, correct?TSTR wrote:Joke thread?

Until I get a bigger place, I plan on hooking it up to a 720p tv in my room. Obviously upscaling is important, but I'm not sure if scanlines are necessary. I've never seen it in motion in person to have a formed opinion.
